Job Purpose
- To provide high-quality servicing repair maintenance and inspection of the council s light fleet vehicles and light plant machinery ensuring all vehicles are safe compliant and operational to support council services.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Carry out servicing maintenance repairs and safety inspections on light fleet vehicles and light plant machinery.
- Diagnose faults and complete required repairs in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure all work meets required safety and quality standards in compliance with DVSA regulations and council policies.
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out including parts used and time spent.
- Conduct MOT testing (Class 4 with Class 5 & 7 highly desirable) where qualified.
- Perform welding and fabricating work as required (if skills are available).
- Collaborate with the Workshop and Fleet Team to ensure efficient operation of the fleet service.
Essential Experience Required
- Previous experience working in a fleet workshop or similar mechanical environment.
- Proven track record in servicing repairing and inspecting light commercial vehicles.
- Experience with MOT testing (Class 4 essential; Class 5 & 7 desirable).
- Welding/fabrication experience (advantageous but not essential).
Essential Qualification Required
- City & Guilds Level 3 minimum or equivalent for light commercial Van/tipper repair and maintenance.
- DVSA nominated tester class 4 (5&7 is highly desirable but not essential).
- Light Plant machinery (CITB Plant Operators Certificates highly desirable) for the repair and maintenance of walk behind and ride on mowers pole saws and blowers chippers and stump grinders etc.
- Any welding/fabricating skills and Qualifications/Certificates would be again highly desirable but not essential.
Additional information to note
- Working hours: 37 hours per week.
- The successful candidates will either be based at Bromsgrove or Redditch Depot where you will be working in a small friendly team in an environment where you where you are more than just a number.
