Job Description

About the role:

The Office of MP Olszewski is currently looking to staff the position of Parliamentary Assistant.  

In this role you will be responsible for conducting research collecting data analyzing findings and preparing summaries and reports that are of interest to the Member of Parliament. 

Primary responsibilities: 

  • Manages the Parliamentary Office and oversees the day-to-day operations; 
  • Manages triages and reviews the Members emails and communications; 
  • Researches analyzes and identifies information for the preparation of briefings and correspondence; 
  • Supports the Ministerial Parliamentary Affairs team to prepare the Member for House of Commons and committee work; 
  • Supports the Ministerial team and their operations at the Parliamentary Office; 
  • Reviews news media to ensure that the Member and staff are continually kept abreast of emerging and evolving issues and of areas of possible interest or concern; 
  • Represents the Members office at meetings as necessary to ensure the Member is kept apprised of developments that may have an impact on their work; 
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position at the Members request such as drafting correspondence and reviewing it for factual accuracy and clarification.

Salary:  $40000 $42000 per year 

Start date: As soon as possible. 


Qualifications :

Education:

  • University degree or post-secondary education from a recognized institution in political science or a related field combined with experience working with senior management OR an acceptable combination of education training and relevant experience. 

Experiences:

  • Experience working in an office setting providing research and legislative support; 
  • Experience conducting research and analysis to distill complex information into clear concise briefs or summaries. 
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook); 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills  
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; 
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to effectively manage a busy calendar. 

Assets:

  • Experience supporting a federally or provincially elected official 
  • Knowledge of the House of Commons its culture and its mandate; 
  • Ability to discern information that would be of interest or pertinent to the Member or for parliamentary business; 
  • Proficiency in French is an asset.
