The Opportunity:
Join our dynamic Facilities Operations team as a Roof Technician this role you will play a key part in maintaining and sanitizing the campus to ensure a safe functional clean and efficient living and learning environment. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues responding to service requests from customers and staff and providing support as needed. The ideal candidate has advanced repair and replacement skills for building systems including but not limited to roofing and building envelopes. The role also involves working closely with contractors on roof and moisture barrier construction and repairs.
Responsibilities:
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks or other assignments as directed by the supervisor. Conduct preventive maintenance repairs (PMR) to address defects found during PM or PDM inspections. Perform corrective repairs in response to user-reported issues to restore functionality. Planned work includes tasks in the following skilled trades: Roof repairs and building envelope systems: Perform carpentry repairs to floors doors ceilings windows and walls. Plumbing electrical work painting and carpentry: Complete painting tasks for interior and exterior areas equipment and building components.
Lead work performed by central shops contractors other zones departments or events on campus. Manage advanced-level maintenance projects ensuring timely and efficient completion.
Complete work orders promptly recording labor hours action codes shop stock and trade notes. Document work performed any special conditions and issues requiring further attention in the trade notes. Report conditions needing supervisor attention and update work order statuses accordingly.
Report deficiencies related to maintenance health and sanitation. Ensure compliance with university local state and federal guidelines regulations and policies. Assist with inventory control and security. Participate in all required safety training.
Collaborate effectively with other campus departments as needed.
Participate in the on-call response rotation.
Ability to work in outdoor conditions within differing climates and at different elevations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 4 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
4 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
Advanced skills and experience in roof repairs and building envelope systems including diagnosing and repairing issues related to roofing moisture barriers and building integrity.
Proficiency in performing carpentry repairs to ceilings windows and walls with attention to detail in maintaining structural integrity.
Proven ability to lead and manage maintenance projects including overseeing work performed by central shops contractors and other campus departments with a focus on timely and efficient completion.
Experience with Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) or similar platforms for work order management to include accurately recording labor hours action codes shop stock and trade notes while documenting any special conditions or issues that require further attention.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to report deficiencies related to maintenance health and sanitation along with ensuring compliance with university local state and federal guidelines regulations and policies.
Experience with inventory control and security through ensuring proper management and tracking of materials and supplies.
Able to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with various campus departments and teams to address facility needs and ensure smooth operations.
Commitment to safety protocols and a track record of promoting a safe work environment by participating in all required safety training.
Willingness to participate in the on-call response rotation and provide timely and effective support in emergencies.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.29 to $24.85. The final rate will be determined based on the candidates qualifications experience and internal equity considerations.
Position involves working on rooftops and high elevations with exposure to extreme temperatures.
Position requires a valid Class E drivers license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
