Burrow Global is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to lead and deliver an engineering study to reduce the number of solid material vessels from 11 to 5. The successful candidate will own process flows solids handling concepts mass/energy balances and economic evaluations while coordinating equipment selections risk assessments and integration with existing systems. This is a high-impact project with direct influence on capital scope and site performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end engineering study to evaluate options for consolidating 11 vessels to 5 including solids handling across the network vessel capability and integration with the 5 MINS products and Elvax beads.
- Develop and manage process simulations mass/energy balances cycle times and throughput scenarios; quantify utilities raw material usage and potential savings (operational and capital opex/Capex implications).
- Assess flammability and combustible handling risks at elevated temperatures (70C) and propose risk controls and mitigation strategies.
- Evaluate equipment requirements (funnel/venturi configurations pumps and controls shot pot systems screw conveyors) vessel modifications access and maintainability.
- Screen and compare supplier/ sourcing options (e.g. Elvax beads in big bags) and assess integration with existing operations.
- Produce option trade-off documentation economic justifications and a recommended preferred option for leadership.
- Develop high-level design inputs for the preferred option (conceptual layout preliminary P&IDs control philosophy safety envelopes) and a transition plan from 11 to 5 vessels.
- Coordinate with site operations utilities maintenance and safety teams; facilitate cross-functional reviews and obtain necessary approvals.
- Contribute to the final project report and presentation to leadership; manage documentation and version control.
- For the preferred option support Phase 2 detailed design efforts (process/mechanical interface considerations equipment specs and commissioning readiness).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 7 years of process engineering experience in chemical petrochemical polymers or related industries; experience with solids handling and multi-unit operations is highly desirable.
- Strong background in mass/energy balances process modeling and economic evaluation (CAPEX/OPEX ROI NPV).
- Demonstrated experience leading feasibility studies or option evaluations for production optimization or asset consolidation.
- Knowledge of flammability risk assessment process safety and handling of combustible materials at elevated temperatures.
- Solid understanding of equipment associated with solids handling and processing (pumps valves vessels funnels/venturis shot pots conveyors) and their integration into process systems.
- Familiarity with control systems and instrumentation concepts; ability to define control needs and interfaces for new/modified equipment.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; experience working with cross-functional teams and multi-discipline stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with procurement or supplier evaluation for specialty materials (e.g. beads resins) and packaging in bulk bags.
- Prior involvement in transition from multiple units to simplified asset configurations and associated mothballing or decommissioning considerations.
- Basic knowledge of HAZOP/HAZID processes or other risk assessment methodologies.
Project Details:
- Initial study duration: Approximately 3-4 months.
- Deliverables: Baseline/Option reports economic analysis safety/risk assessment recommendation for preferred option high-level design inputs for the chosen option and transition plan.
