We are looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to lead and grow our 5-person DevOps/Platform team. You will be at the forefront of building and maintaining the highly available private cloud infrastructure that powers our mission-critical emergency call handling NG911 systems directly impacting public safety.
This role requires a leader who can blend strong technical expertise with exceptional mentorship to foster a high-performing team and deliver innovative solutions. This is a player-coach position where you are expected to contribute to the code and lead by example.
What Youll Do:
Lead mentor and empower a team of platform engineers in a 24/7(on-call) operational environment
Define and execute the technical vision for our private cloud platform focusing on best practices in virtualization automation and distributed systems.
Actively contribute to the teams codebase tackling complex technical challenges and writing code for critical infrastructure components and automation.
Oversee the teams end-to-end ownership of the platform including system design implementation testing delivery and maintenance.
Drive seamless collaboration with other engineering teams to ensure the reliability and performance of mission-critical applications.
Champion a culture of innovation accountability and continuous improvement within the team.
Technical skills - must have
Strong understanding of Linux operating systems (RHEL preferred).
Experience with virtualization technologies (eg PROXMOX VMware ESXi KVM).
Experience with container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes K8s).
Proficiency in scripting languages ( Python Ruby).
Hands-on experience with automation of infrastructure and application deployments ( Terraform).
Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools (Jenkins GitHub Actions).
Understanding of networking concepts and principles and security best practices
Soft skills:
Fluent English
Ability to define and guide the overall mission goals and roadmap of the platform team.
Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Strong analytical skills to resolve complex technical and organizational challenges efficiently.
Excellent ability to articulate technical concepts manage stakeholder expectations and align team efforts with organizational priorities.
Drive for implementing best practices encouraging innovation and improving processes and technologies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Open to learning new technologies and adapting to changing requirements.
Experience:
2 years of experience in leadership roles
8 years of experience in a Platform Architect Senior DevOps System Architect or related roles
Experience managing resources and timelines to ensure the successful delivery of platform initiatives.
Hands-on experience with the technologies mentioned above.
Experience with large enterprise IT systems hosted on a private cloud
Experience with highly available zero-downtime platforms
Proven experience in automate everything organizations
