Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $42.27/Hr. - CAD $52.81/Hr.

Summary

Within the context of a patient client and family centred model of care and in accordance with the Mission Vision and Values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care promotes a safe respectful and civil working environment for patients residents families visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Program Leader the Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor provides individual placement support services through assessing and evaluating clients vocational rehabilitation needs and working with the interdisciplinary care team to determine appropriate vocational rehabilitation goals. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor builds relationships with clients by providing either one-to-one or group counselling and supports the development of vocational rehabilitation plans. The Counsellor advocates arranges testing course registration and education job accommodation and workplace appointments for clients. Monitors clients employment placement tracks process and evaluates program. Assesses clients progress re-evaluates clients goals and documents progress ensuring the interdisciplinary team is kept up to date on progress. The Counsellor supports job development marketing and job search activities including job coaching and training. Liaises with Community Employers to create employment opportunities building and sustaining networks and relationships. Maintains records analyses data trends and prepares reports as needed. Attends meetings and provides education to the interdisciplinary care team ensuring ongoing communication and support.

What You Bring

Education
Bachelors degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counselling plus one (1) year recent related experience providing vocational counselling or job marketing/ development and one (1) year working with youth and young adults across the mental health and substance use continuum or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Eligibility for Certification with the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals as a CVRP or CCVE.

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation principles.

Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act Criminal Code of Canada Freedom of Information Act pertinent regulations policies and procedures and other statutory requirements.

Basic counselling skills in working with clients with mental health and substance use concerns.

Demonstrated knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation principles.

Demonstrated knowledge of youth and young adult mental health and substance use issues.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with and resolve conflicts.

Demonstrated ability to design implement revise and participate in the evaluation of clinical/ vocational rehabilitation programs.

Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a complex and changing environment.

Demonstrated skill in word processing computer applications.

Ability to work effectively with others including working effectively in a multicultural environment independently as part of an interdisciplinary care team and understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.

Ability to assess plan organize implement evaluate and problem-solve.

1. Assesses and evaluates clients vocational rehabilitation needs including eligibility for government supports as applicable on an ongoing basis through methods such as collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team and the client to determine interests skills and abilities encouraging clients involvement in plan development and setting of appropriate vocational rehabilitation goals in accordance with clients preferences needs and abilities.

2. Receives referrals and coordinates individual client intake into the program ensuring the timely assessment entrance and orientation of clients. Responsible for an assigned caseload of clients.

3. Develops individual vocational rehabilitation plans to integrate vocational goals into the mental health and substance use treatment plan through methods such as engaging clients in discussion to determine individual needs potential career paths and building a trusting and respectful relationship; making recommendations for placement considering clients expressed preferences/interests and suitability. Coordinates pre-vocational training for clients so that they are able to take full advantage of programs available.

4. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team and community professionals and advocates on behalf of the client to assist them in accomplishing a goal of competitive employment or other viable vocational pursuits in an integrated community setting. Supports interdisciplinary care team and other service providers across the Foundry network to learn about and support youth with accessing government benefits when needed.

5. Promotes and develops training and employment opportunities in the community for clients through methods such as arranging testing and course registration and payment.

6. Provides education and support to employers as agreed upon by the client such as negotiating job accommodations workplace agreements and ongoing contact with the employer.

7. Monitors vocational training placements tracks progress evaluates programs and participates in over-all case planning for clients by methods such as assessing client progress revisiting goals highlighting accomplishments writing progress notes and reports; informing the interdisciplinary care team of progress any concerns changes recommended regarding the clients development in the program.

8. Provides ongoing support services to clients related to employment through methods such as providing vocational rehabilitation counselling to clients on an individual basis facilitating group sessions and liaising with the interdisciplinary care team.

9. Liaises with government offices and programs regarding social benefits supporting referrals and applications as required. Maintains sources of information outlining Government benefits through educational resources available to youth and service providers and ensures they are kept up to date and accurate on a regular basis.

10. Conducts job development marketing and job search activities directed towards positions that are consistent with the needs and interests of the client. Provides job coaching to ensure orientation and on-going training for clients as required.
