TRIUMF Canadas premier particle accelerator center is dedicated to advancing research in particle and nuclear physics materials science and nuclear medicine. At the heart of TRIUMFs operations is the Controls Group responsible for designing installing and maintaining the electrical and computer infrastructure essential for accelerator control systems across the facility. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams the Controls Group ensures the seamless remote operation of custom instrumentation utilised in various experiments and facilities. As a Control System Technician you will engage in hands-on technical support encompassing the operation production installation and troubleshooting of all control system aspects. Your role will involve employing intermediate methodologies to design test and maintain control system hardware and software components contributing significantly to TRIUMFs cutting-edge scientific endeavours.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with scientists engineers and professionals across disciplines to design build and implement hardware and software solutions crucial for experiment execution data acquisition motion control synchronisation and accelerator operation
Design installation and maintenance of control system hardware
Create and maintain detailed documentation and drawings. Ensuring all project documentation is up to date.
Installation of controls system hardware interconnecting cables and connectors
Uses test & measurement equipment to analyze performance of control system equipment and provide timely fault diagnosis and resolution
Contributes to and participates in critical review processes as a reviewer observer and presenter.
Understands and adheres to TRIUMF safety Work Permit and Quality Management processes and procedures
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Understands concepts of a distributed control system
Uses Microsoft Office based productivity tools
Skilled in computing and network related activities
Works under frequently tight deadlines and manages time by assessing priorities and adjusting schedules and work plans
Critical thinking to assess technical proposals suggest implementation strategies and develop working designs
Effective verbal and written communication
Skilled with basic hand tools wire strippers crimpers and soldering iron.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Technical diploma in electrical robotics or similar technologies
Minimum of 1 year related experience.
QUALIFICATION CONSIDERED AN ASSET:
Proficiency use of the Linux Operating System as a daily work platform
Experience programming and/or installing PLCs HMI development
NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:
Some work will require access to exclusion areas where there are activated components. The position requires the incumbent to be trained as a NEW. TRIUMF will provide this training for the successful candidate.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
