Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Under limited supervision of a SC Licensed Psychiatrist
- Provides advanced psychiatric/medical care for individuals and populations with complex nursing/medical and mental health needs.
- Works independently with minimal supervision providing diagnosis and treatment according to protocols.
- Establishes and monitors standards for clinical practice within SCDC.
- Uses prescriptive authority.
- Monitors medication.
- Conducts psychiatric assessments.
- Participates in treatment team and completes and records health histories of inmates.
- Conducts suicide/crisis intervention assessments.
- Performs all admissions procedures for a designated caseload of mentally ill patients including appropriate family history and complete physical examination and completes psychiatric assessments.
- Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings.
- Attends probate court hearings.
- Orders diagnostic testing as appropriate including radiologic and lab studies; accurately interprets findings.
Resume preferred but not required. Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the masters level or doctoral level acceptable to the Board to include clinical experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
Certified as a nurse practitioner by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or licensed in another state and eligible in South Carolina (Will need to be licensed in SC within 6 months of employment) with clinical psychiatric experience. Must have Basic Life Support Certification.Additional Comments
