About the opportunity

The Tasmanian Policy Exchange (TPE) is an agile team of researchers focused on the big issues shaping Tasmanias future. Located within the Research Division at the University we work with government industry and community partners to produce and share rigorous independent evidence and policy analysis; and we support our University colleagues to make timely and informed contributions to policy debates.

Our policy analysis is aligned with and supports the University of Tasmanias Transitions agenda with a particular focus on enhancing productivity and supporting the transition to a zero emissions economy beyond policy work aligned with Universitys Strategic Refresh we undertake commissioned on the critical Tasmanian policy challenges.

At the heart of the TPE is a deep commitment to informing and supporting policy innovation and reform through insightful analysis collaboration engagement and courageous leadership.

What youll do:

• Contribute to the design and delivery of high-quality policy analysis aligned with the TPEs strategic priorities including by undertaking background research and systematic reviews analysing and presenting qualitative and quantitative data.
• Assist with drafting and publishing accessible evidence-based articles and reports on Tasmanian policy challenges.
• Apply a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and data analysis to Tasmanian policy challenges across areas including democracy and good governance productivity reform regional development and supporting the transition to a zero-emissions future.
• Develop and maintain productive and effective relationships with government industry and the wider community including attendance at external forums committees and working groups when required.
• Help deliver training that enables University staff and students to achieve policy impact through engagement with government community and industry stakeholders.
• Support the University-wide implementation of the Tasmania Transitions and conduct associated research and policy impact activities.
• Identify and help secure external funding from government and industry partners and other research funding sources.

What were looking for:

• An honours level or a higher-level degree (e.g. PhD) in Social Sciences Business and Economics or Law.
• At least 12 months professional experience delivering high-quality applied policy analysis in fields relevant to Tasmanias future.
• A track record of publishing impactful reports and analysis on contemporary public policy issues.
• A strong understanding of and commitment to the Universitys Tasmanian Transitions including productivity challenges and/or innovative strategies for supporting the transition to a zero-emission economy.
• High level verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate complex concepts and findings to senior decision makers (Cabinet Ministers Boards) and non-expert audiences.
• Ability to work effectively and productively as a member of a small team to deliver project-based outcomes against tight timelines.
• A thorough understanding of the Tasmanian community economy and government.
• Experience in either: conducting analysis of economic policy using appropriate quantitative methods and tools (particularly Tableau and ABS TableBuilder); or conducting in-depth analysis of social policy and delivering effective community engagement.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $125877 comprising base salary within the range of $83198 to $107587 plus 17% superannuation.
