Job Description
Job Title: Indian Education Elementary Tutor
Location: Bixby East Elementary
Job Type: Part time
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive Elementary Tutor to support the academic success of Native American/Alaska Native students in grades K6. This role is part of the Indian Education Program and focuses on providing one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core subjects such as reading writing and math with an emphasis on culturally relevant education and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide academic tutoring in reading writing and math to elementary students.
- Adapt instruction to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
- Incorporate Native American cultural knowledge and perspectives into tutoring sessions.
- Communicate regularly with Indian Education staff classroom teachers and families.
- Maintain records of tutoring sessions student progress and attendance.
- Support students in building confidence motivation and positive study habits.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
- Experience working with Native American students and communities is highly preferred.
- Strong academic skills in elementary-level reading writing and math.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly.
- Knowledge of Native American cultures traditions and tribal education initiatives is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous tutoring or classroom experience.
- Familiarity with Title VI Indian Education programs or Johnson-OMalley programs.
Schedule:
Weekly-18-20 hours
