The Stony Brook School is seeking a dependable and skilled Facilities Technician or
Mechanic to join our dedicated team. This is a hands-on role that plays a vital part in
maintaining the functionality safety and appearance of our beautiful campus. The ideal
candidate will have broad maintenance experience and a heart for serving in a school
community.
Key Responsibilities:
Promptly identify and resolve maintenance issues across campus facilities.
Respond to work orders and maintenance requests from residents or supervisors in a
timely and professional manner.
Accurately document maintenance issues in the Work Order system.
Take ownership of facilities-related emergencies after hours and coordinate the
appropriate resources to address them.
Complete larger projects during off-hours-including painting carpentry or
remodeling-while minimizing disruption to campus activities.
Communicate clearly respectfully and professionally with faculty staff and residents.
Maintain a customer-service-oriented approach in all interactions.
Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and maintain a high standard of
professionalism.
Demonstrate adaptability to shifting priorities and job duties as needs arise.
Perform physically demanding tasks including frequent walking bending climbing
lifting and maneuvering in confined spaces.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Proven experience in general maintenance and repair including tasks such as:
o Carpentry construction sheet-rocking painting concrete work hardware
maintenance and minor plumbing.
o Grounds upkeep and equipment/machine maintenance.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Clean and valid drivers license.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to serving a school
community.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Strong commitment to supporting the schools mission through service stewardship of
campus facilities and upholding a culture that reflects The Stony Brooks Schools values.
Physical capability to perform tasks that require strength and endurance (position is
active 80% of the time).
Additional Information:
The position involves an 8-hour workday including a paid lunch break.
Schedule may require availability during late afternoons evenings and occasional
Saturdays.
Overtime and schedule flexibility may be required based on campus needs.
Salary and Benefits
Comprehensive benefits package includes free premiums for high-quality medical and
