PositionSummary:

TheFinancialAnalystFinancialPlanning&AnalysisispartofFinanceatVanderbiltUniversityand isa key contributor within the financial planning and analysis function. This position is responsible for assisting the Financial Planning & Analysis team with the budgeting forecasting and capital plan processes for the university university peer financial data and analysis and the development and maintenance of key university materials including the fact book and other materials as required.

Reporting directly to the Director the Financial Analyst Financial Planning & Analysis will collaborate withmultipleoperatingunitsonaroutinebasisto ensurefinancialperformanceisaccuratelycaptured while representing the university in full.

The Financial Analyst position requires higher level conceptual skills a relentless pursuit of knowledge andanintellectualcuriositywithout of key university areas while balancing priorities of different stakeholders. The successful candidate must possess the strongest analytical data visualization and presentation conceptual organizational and interpersonal skills while exhibiting high emotional intelligence.

This position will cultivate and foster relationships across the institution to promote consistency in decision making answer complex strategic questions and further university strategic ideal candidate will serve as the operational focal point for university leadership to help achieve institutionalgoalsthroughongoingcustomerserviceandtherolerequires professionalismpoiseand an ability to discern handle sensitive information and make decisions in the midst of ambiguity.

AbouttheWorkUnit:

FinancialPlanning&Analysis& TreasuryledbytheAssistantViceChancellorhasfiscalresponsibilityfor university-wide capital planning and budgeting and forecasting and serves as the stewards of the

universitys working capital assets and FP&A team has primary focus on annual operating budgets quarterly financial forecasting strategic financial modeling and ad hoc financial projects. Treasurymanagesthenon-endowmentbankingrelationshipsonbehalfoftheuniversityoverseesthe universitys internal university and capital bank and manages the universitys external debt portfolio.

KeyFunctionsandExpected Performance:
  • Assist the Financial Planning & Analysis team in developing the universitysannual operating budget five-year capital plan and quarterly forecasts. Activities include development of materialsincludingfinancialmodelspresentationsandsupplementaryanalysisasrequired.
  • Assist the Senior Financial Analyst in efforts to collect consolidate and upload central rates into PBCS for annual budget effort including validating accuracy against Budget Guidelines.
  • AssisttheSeniorFinancialAnalystintheannualefforttoupdatetheuniversityFactBookincluding coordinationwithbusinesspartners andinclusionof relevantand/orupdateddataalongwithad hoc presentations as assigned/required.
  • SupporttheDirectorinsupportinguniversityinitiativesincludingglobalstrategiesand innovation investments
  • Compileandsummarizepeerinstitutionfinancialdataincludingannual operatingresultsforuse in strategic projects and other university initiatives as well as peer tuition and fee data for distribution to senior leadership.
  • CoordinateaccessforPBCSincludingmaintainingsecurityandmonitoringuser activity.
  • Consolidate area variance descriptions for inclusion in the Quarterly Financial Report including editing submissions for concision and clarity along with alignment with forecast submissions in PBCS.
  • Buildandmaintaineffectiveandcollaborativerelationshipswithstakeholdersthroughoutthe University including providing financial and analytical support where necessary.
  • ServeassupportforthedailycashprocesswhentheTreasuryFinancialAnalystisunavailable
  • Participateasakeycontributortoexecutiveandoperationalleadershipbyproactively demonstrating creative and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Developandmaintaincomplexfinancialmodelsandreportingtodrivebusinessdecisions.
  • Understandstrategicfinancialplansincludingannualoperatingbudgetsandcapitalplansandthe overall impact on institutional financial strategic and operational planning.
  • Consistentlyanticipatetheneedsofbusinesspartnerscollaboratingandcommunicatingpotential solutions to emerging issues.
  • Promoteanenvironmentofcollaborationtransparencyapproachabilityandsupport.

  • Utilizeadvancedfunctionsofspreadsheetdatabaseandpresentationsoftwareapplications.
Supervisory Relationships:

Thispositiondoesnothavesupervisoryresponsibilities;thispositionreportsadministrativelyand functionally to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis.

EducationandCertifications:
  • Bachelorsdegreeoranequivalentcombinationofeducationrelevantmilitaryexperienceand relevant skills is required.
  • MBAorrelatedMastersdegree ispreferred.

ExperienceandSkills:
  • Atleasttwoyearsofexperienceisrequired.
  • Experiencedevelopingcomplexfinancialmodelsdataanalysesandpro-formaanalysesis necessary.
  • ThoroughunderstandingofGAAPandaccountingsystemsincludingpurchasingaccounts payable inventory control accruals cost accounting and reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Abilitytoformproductiveallianceseffectivelyandpersuasivelywithfinancialandnon-financial administrators at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptionalabilitytobridgegapsandproblem-solvetoreachsolutionsthataddresstheneedsof stakeholders.
  • Abilitytobalancecompetingpriorities.
