Job Description

OVERVIEW

    • This key role is a guest facing position that will oversee and support the Healing Arts department at Esalen Institute. This position will report to the Director of Guest Services and is a strategic member of the operations team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide superior customer service to guests and massage clients in the Baths space. Be present and aware of guest needs complaints or concerns and the first to respond to any challenges
    • Effectively supervise the team of practitioners to assure the provision of quality bodywork while maintaining Esalens core mission and values.
    • Support ongoing employee training programs and practices to ensure the continued professional development of Esalen Practitioners
    • Support reservationists and office staff handling reservation requests either in person or through training and collaboration
    • Support and contribute to practitioner hiring process and selections
    • Perform personnel management tasks such as verification of licensing performance accountability and improvement plans and disciplinary actions
    • Ensure effective communication and teamwork is cultivated within the department and between Healing Arts and all other Esalen departments
    • Ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of the existing practitioner/client booking system
    • Elevate the services offered and ensure we are anticipating client needs
    • Completion of daily checklists and preparation
    • Ensure timely provisioning of materials and supplies to practitioners including inventory and ordering
    • Ensure the cleanliness and appearance of the massage space and supply rooms meet the standards defined
    • Responsible for team schedule management and payroll processing
    • Perform additional duties as required to support departmental and organizational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

    • Proven ability to build and motivate a team of professionals in a creative collaborative and direct way
    • Flexible and comfortable in taking responsibility being held accountable and making decisions
    • Strong listening skills with empathy and common sense
    • Grounded well organized and flexible
    • Three years direct experience working with the general public in the health and wellness or service industry
    • Knowledgeable about Esalen bodywork and the qualities of presence touch and healing that Esalen practitioners are expected to provide their clients
    • General knowledge of bodywork industry and specific knowledge of California practitioner regulations
    • Experience and a proven record with strategic planning and implementation
    • Proven ability to work independently
    • Computer proficiency with data management
    • Experience working within the culture and organization of Esalen or similar community based organization is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to maneuver on uneven ground sit for long periods of time occasionally carry and lift up to 25 pounds and be able to perform daily repetitive hand motions as it pertains to computer mouse and keyboard.

COMPENSATION

    • Housing available for this position on-site (residential fee charged)
$25 - $32 an hour
