Course Description:

Law students work hard to maximize their grades in law school and their success in the legal profession. Along the way many sacrifice their wellbeing not knowing that by doing so they are in fact undermining their primary goals of academic and professional achievement. A robust body of evidence shows that investing in wellbeing is one of the most effective mechanisms for improving grades and professional performance with the added benefit that it results in greater health and happiness and lower risks of mental or physical breakdown. The first recommendation of the recent national study on lawyer wellbeing was to improve preparation of future legal professionals to support them to deal with psychological health issues. This course will introduce students to a variety of evidence-based ways to maximize happiness during law school and in legal practice. Topics will include determinants of lawyer wellbeing physical foundations of mental health self-compassion practice mindfulness meditation the wellness-informed job search and other evidence-based happiness interventions.

Requirements:

The Common Law Section is seeking candidates who are leaders in the legal profession. An LL.B. J.D. or equivalent is required for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario is an asset. The successful candidate will have significant experience in the law of the European Union. Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset.

The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements where the candidates selection would be beneficial to the program the course the students or for a related reason.
