Job Location: San Francisco CA
Summary: The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for meeting the fundraising goals by securing major and leadership gifts (including campaign) for the assigned schools within the university. The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Director of Development of University Advancement and works closely with the Deans of assigned schools to provide direction and assistance with development activities.
This position is in-person in San Francisco CA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develop and meet measurable goals for a major gift program in alignment with the goals of the Deans President and Advancement Team.
Manage an ongoing portfolio of potential donors and move them through the giving cycle against goal including setting strategy for each stage of the pipeline.
Articulate and advocate for the academic priorities of the schools to alumni and general public.
Direct and support deans development work for the cultivation and solicitation of donors affiliated with their programs including the relationship management documentation in Raisers Edge.
Plan and implement donor activities meetings and events with the deans VP president and board of trustee members including logistics donor briefings and talking points.
Work with other GGU Development Directors to leverage relationships travel and skill sets which best advance the mission and goals of GGU.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience:
Superior knowledge of principles of institutional advancement development and philanthropy including prospect portfolio management personal solicitation campaigns planned giving and other areas.
Demonstrated knowledge of techniques of donor cultivation and solicitation.
Expertise with all forms of private resource development including annual capital and events.
Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise diplomacy manage internal politics and build consensus in a complex environment.
Ability to reconcile competing interests and build support from competing constituencies.
Outstanding written listening and oral communication skills including excellent public speaking presentation.
Experience with systems processes and work alliances in a complex collaborative organization.
Excellent process management skills financial operations experience and computer proficiency with development software customer relationship management software and general office applications. Prefer knowledge of Raisers Edge SalesForce and MS Office products.
Enthusiasm sense of humor and the ability to be flexible and work collaboratively with a variety of teams and constituents.
Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative creativity and critical thinking abilities; willingness to take risks and solve problems creatively.
Ability to travel overnight via flight and driving.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Masters degree from an accredited institution; Five years experience with all forms of private resource development: annual capital planned giving and events fund-raising in a college or non-profit (501(c) 3) organization
