Salary:
Lecturer Grade F: 40497 to 45413 per annum
Senior Lecturer Grade G: 46735 to 55755 per annum
Senior Lecturer Grade H: 57422 to 66537 per annum

The Role
The Marine Offshore and Subsea Technology group is an international leader in research homed within the School of Engineering. Our group has a broad base of expertise from a wide range of engineering and scientific backgrounds.
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Marine Technology (Shipping and Logistics). This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Engineering Schools in the UK.

The successful candidate will join a leading team of experts in Marine Offshore and Subsea Technology that spans research across marine hydrodynamics and structures marine resources and renewable energy and sustainable shipping and marine engineering. With a broad base of expertise and working closely with Industry the Group focusses on solving global grand challenges in Marine Technology. This research supports the Schools strong track record of national and international research collaborations with strategic partnerships in key areas tackling global challenges in sustainable energy transport and advanced manufacturing.
We particularly welcome applicants whose research interests include:
- Maritime decarbonisation and shipping sustainability
- Logistics and ports
- Marine production (shipyards retrofitting maintenance) and project management
- Digitalisation and AI in marine technology
Through your research and teaching you will deliver expertise in:
- Analysing shipping and logistics systems
- Supporting transport operations to become both greener and smarter
- Investigating pathways to net zero intermodal transport
- Exploiting the potential of logistics data
- Maximising the potential of intelligent and smart systems
- Enhancing transport safety cyber security and resilience

This is a two-stage recruiting process. This means we will be holding presentations as the initial assessment followed by interviews for shortlisted candidates.

- Conduct internationally excellent research in Marine Technology in Shipping and Logistics publishing high-quality outputs and demonstrating impact
- Secure funding from UKRI EU and industrial partners to support research activities aligned with Shipping and Logistics
- Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes developing innovative teaching materials supporting Marine Technology
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects as well as PhD students
- Contribute to curriculum development within Marine Technology with a primary focus on Shipping and Logistics
- Collaborate in an interdisciplinary way within the University and with external partners to enhance the impact of research
- Participate in academic leadership and management activities within the School
- Engage in knowledge exchange and public engagement working with industry government and the wider public
- Represent the discipline on relevant School Faculty or University committees/groups
The Person
Knowledge Skills and Experience
All levels
- Demonstrable subject knowledge in Marine Technology in Shipping and Logistics
- Track record of high-quality research at an international level demonstrated through:
- High-impact publications in leading Marine Technology and Engineering journals
- Conference presentations and invited talks
- Clear research vision with potential for significant future contributions
- Experience in teaching or assessment at undergraduate or postgraduate levels
- Ability to collaborate with academic industrial and international partners
- Strong communication and presentation skills with experience in delivering effective learning materials
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills balancing teaching research and administration
In addition for Grade G lecturers
- Evidence of securing research funding or clear potential to do so
- Research impact aligned with career stage and experience
- Expected to hold a HEA Fellowship with a proven track record of teaching and assessment
- Experience in technology-enhanced learning and laboratory-based teaching
In addition for Senior Lecturer level
- Strong track record of attracting significant research funding
- Leading national and international collaborative research
- High-profile publications and invited talks at major Marine Technology conferences

Qualifications
- A bachelors or masters degree in Marine Technology Shipping or a cognate discipline
- A PhD in Marine Technology or a relevant subject area
Desirable
- A recognised teaching qualification in Higher Education or equivalent experience
- Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution
