Introduction
Are you a qualified and experienced Legal Appointee (2.9.2) with a strong background in coal mining operations Our client a prominent mining company is seeking a committed and safety-driven professional to take on a critical statutory role in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
Key Responsibilities:
- Fulfil legal responsibilities in accordance with Section 2.9.2 of the MHSA
- Oversee compliance with all applicable health safety and environmental legislation
- Supervise operational activities in your appointed area ensuring safe coal production
- Conduct risk assessments audits inspections and safety investigations
- Enforce mine standards Codes of Practice and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Drive a culture of safety performance and legal accountability across your team
- Collaborate with engineering safety and production teams to align operations with statutory and company requirements
- Submit legal and operational reports as required
Minimum Requirements:
- Blasting Certificate of Competency (Coal) – Essential
- Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency – Essential
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- 5–8 years’ experience in coal mining including supervisory/legal appointee roles
- Excellent understanding of MHSA DMR compliance and mining regulations
- Proven track record in managing production safety and people
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
