  • Based in the Newcastle Area
  • Casual rates apply depending on experience ($45.01 to $49.28) plus employers contribution to superannuation and casual loading

About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is offering a unique opportunity for three casual Discovery Rangers to join the Hunter Central Coast team. This role contributes towards the conservation of the natural environment flora fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

As a Discovery Ranger you will implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors across various locations to foster community awareness appreciation and understanding for conserving the states natural and cultural heritage. This role will focus on practical experience in interpretive and educational guiding developing programs and resources delivering in-school experiences and provides opportunities for ongoing training.

About You

  • Strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role.
  • You will be designing and delivering programs to different stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations.
  • Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working unsupervised or as part of a team.
  • Ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards
  • Your experience in teaching and environmental education will be highly valued but not essential.
  • Demonstrated passion for history geography and science the Australian environment and awareness of NPWS values.

Essential Requirements

  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
  • First Aid Certificate and Current Australian Drivers Licence or willingness to obtain.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekdays weekends public holidays and school holidays
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering interpretative guiding and/or educational programs to students or groups.
  • Awareness of Aboriginal culture and broad knowledge of the natural and historic heritage values of the local area.
  • Sound understanding of Risk Management Minimal Impact and Bush Safety principles in relation to guided tours in a cultural or field setting.
