The Master Electrician on Surface Winders possess advanced technical knowledge (both theory and practical) aligned to an in-house skills matrix and development plan.
Roles and responsibilities include the following:
- Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
- Attend and conduct Safety meetings
- Provide expert specialised engineering services (e.g.: advanced diagnostics fault finding of critical equipment)
- Ensure that work area is maintained to the required housekeeping (5 S) standards
- Ensure all equipment and facilities comply with the required Valterra Platinum specifications and standards for safe operation.
- Ensure electrical systems machinery and equipment are maintained and repaired to ensure optimum plant availability and reliability.
- Perform inspections of completed work and over inspection of delegated work in progress.
- Routine Maintenance and condition monitoring of equipment components.
- Team lead for component replacements.
- Advanced troubleshooting on complex breakdown & repeat breakdowns.
- Investigate all out of the ordinary and repeat incidents with the aim to identify root causes and eliminate defects.
- Ensure maintenance checklists inspections switching plans and associated legal and mandatory logbooks are up to date and accurate
- Exercise judgment with regards to repair versus replacement versus upgrade of components
- Ensure readily after hour availability when on standby
- Ensure that material spares and equipment are available as required
- Conduct MV refresher assessments for electricians
This role is at a C3 level
Qualifications :
- N4 Electrical qualification
- Electrical Trade Test
- MV Certification (MQA)
- Winder Competency
Experience
- 8 years experience of which 3-5 years as a MV certified electrician within the mining of heavy industrial sectors
- Winders experience on major winder installations 4.5MW Double Drums winders fitted with solid state drives.
Technical Knowledge and skills
- Knowledge of operational processes within scope of role
- Proficient in Asset Management
- Proficient in Law & Standards
- Proficient in PLOC
- Proficient in A2 Safety
- Proficient in VFL Training
- Proficient in Condition Monitoring Training
- Must demonstrate advanced skills to troubleshoot repair and maintain MV and LV electrical systems and major equipment within area of responsibility (e.g.: GMDs winders transformers MV switchgear etc.)
- Equipment and machinery specific competence as per the role specific requirements detailed in the skills matrix
