The Division of Student Recruitment resides in the responsibility centre of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Strategy Global and Corporate Affairs at Stellenbosch University (SU). The Division is responsible for recruiting students from diverse backgrounds and for making an optimal contribution to the achievement of the Universitys set enrolment targets. Apart from a wide range of recruitment activities the Division also has a team of educational and career psychologists who provide professional career counselling services and aptitude assessments.

This position entails offering professional career advice and aptitude assessments to academically deserving learners from identified under-resourced addition to professional services delivery to senior high-school learners the incumbent is also responsible for guiding Grade 9 learners in their school subject choices. The position contributes significantly to equitable university access.

The incumbent works closely with the rest of the Student Recruitment team with a direct reporting line to both the operational and strategic heads of the Division.

Die Afdeling Studentewerwing val onder die verantwoordelikheidsentrum van die Viserektor: Strategie Globale en Korporatiewe Sake by die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US). Die Afdeling is daarvoor verantwoordelik om studente uit diverse omgewings te werf en n optimale bydrae te lewer om die inskrywingsteikens van die Universiteit te haal. Benewens n wye verskeidenheid werwingsaktiwiteite het die Afdeling ook n span opvoedkundige en loopbaansielkundiges wat professionele loopbaanvoorligtingsdienste en aanlegtoetse voorsien.

Hierdie pos behels die voorsiening van professionele loopbaanadvies en aanlegtoetse aan akademies verdienstelike leerders in bepaalde hulpbronarm skole. Afgesien van professionele dienslewering aan senior horskoolleerders is die posbekler ook daarvoor verantwoordelik om graad 9-leerders met hulle skoolvakkeuses by te staan. Die pos dra aansienlik tot billike universiteitstoegang by.

Die posbekler werk sy aan sy met die res van die Studentewerwingspan met n direkte verslagdoeningslyn na sowel die bedryfs- as die strategiese hoof van die Afdeling.

Duties/Pligte

  • Offering career counselling and subject choice guidance to learners both individually and in groups.
  • Presenting related information sessions and workshops to influencer groups such as Life Orientation educators and parents.
  • Performing ethical and accurate psychometric assessments including but not limited to the DAT-S DAT-L JPQ MB10 and CIP assessments.
  • Taking charge of the administration associated with providing career counselling and psychometrical services to the designated learner groups.
  • Administering scoring and interpreting tests and writing results reports.
  • Building strategic partnerships with designated schools.
  • Maintaining a sound knowledge of study programmes offered at higher education institutions.

  • Voorsien loopbaanvoorligting en vakkeusebystand aan leerders sowel individueel as in groepe.
  • Bied verbandhoudende inligting- en werksessies aan vir benvloedergroepe soos Lewensorintering-opvoeders en ouers.

  • Behartig die administrasie verbonde aan die voorsiening van loopbaanvoorligting en psigometriese dienste aan die aangewese leerdergroepe.
  • Neem toetse af dien punte daaraan toe en vertolk dit en skryf verslae oor die uitslae.
  • Bou strategiese vennootskappe met aangewese skole.
  • Handhaaf n behoorlike kennis van studieprogramme wat by horonderwysinstellings aangebied word.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • At least a masters degree in counselling or educational psychology.
  • Registration as an educational or counselling psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
  • The ability to communicate in a multilingual environment in either English or Afrikaans.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook) as well as MS Teams/Zoom/other suitable virtual meeting platforms.
  • A minimum of three years work experience in career counselling for high-school learners (including subject choice guidance).
  • Adequate professional training knowledge and understanding of psychometric assessments as well as professional career counselling skills as prescribed by the profession.
  • Expertise in the use of applicable psychometric assessments.
  • Academic reading research and writing skills applicable to psychometric assessments and report writing.
  • The ability to test both in-person and online administered assessments.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • The ability to work under pressure.
  • The ability to work in diverse community contexts.
  • Administrative and management skills to oversee the project.

  • Uitstekende rekenaarvaardighede in MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint en Outlook) sowel as MS Teams/Zoom/ander gepaste virtuele vergaderplatforms.
  • Minstens drie jaar se werkservaring op die gebied van loopbaanvoorligting vir horskoolleerders (wat vakkeusebystand insluit).
  • Voldoende professionele opleiding kennis en begrip van psigometriese assesserings sowel as professionele loopbaanvoorligtingsvaardighede soos wat die beroep voorskryf.
  • Kundigheid in die toepassing van tersaaklike psigometriese assesserings.
  • Akademiese lees- navorsings- en skryfvaardighede van toepassing op psigometriese assesserings en die skryf van verslae.
  • Die vermo om beide persoonlike en aanlyn assesserings te kan toets.
  • Goeie kommunikasie- en interpersoonlike vaardighede.
