Job Description
Technician: Post No. 459
Minimum Requirements and Recommendations
- Bachelors degree/ BTech in Chemistry (NQF 7)
- Three (3) years of experience in a chemistry laboratory
- Knowledge of the OSH Act with regulations specific to a chemistry laboratory
- Knowledge of equipment and/or apparatus required for practical sessions
- Knowledge of GC and/or GCMS
- Conversant with procurement procedures
- Excellent communication abilities with regard to written verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to effectively demonstrate practical experiment(s) and procedures
- Ability to perform certain tasks individually whilst performing other tasks within a team
- Demonstrate organisational and planning skills
- Ability to work under pressure meet deadlines and liaise with external customers
Summary of Duties
- Prepare and set up for practical sessions as per requirements
- Train students in the proper and safe use of equipment and/or apparatus
- Provide resources and technical support for research projects
- Maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Control the issue of consumables and equipment and/or apparatus as required
- Maintains an up-to-date stock registry of consumables equipment and/or apparatus
- Function as an Invigilator for exams and tests as required
- Liaise with the Senior Technician and relevant Lecturer regarding practical sessions and tests
- Assist in all departmental functions as required
- Timeous submission of accurate and up-to-date reports to the relevant Lecturer and Senior Technician
- Obtain quotations for the purchase of consumables equipment and/or apparatus as required
