Salary: 30805 to 32080 with progression to 34610 per annum

The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Electrical Technician to join our team supporting both teaching and research activities within the School of Engineering.
Based across a range of laboratories and workshops you will play a vital role in delivering high quality technical support for electrical and electronic this role you will be supported by the Technical Team Leader and the School Technical Manager.
You will work alongside a team of Electrical and Electronic Technicians supporting the operation maintenance and development of laboratory spaces and equipment. This includes systems involving test rigs batteries instrumentation motors drives and both electrical and some electronic control systems.

Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical support for teaching and research activities
- Repairing designing and supporting equipment related to single and three-phase control systems process control motors drives and electronics
- Assisting staff and students on the safe use of laboratory test equipment
- Designing building and modifying electrical test rigs
- Applying knowledge of electrical power systems and associated safety devices
- Interpreting and working from electrical wiring diagrams including safety and emergency stop circuitry
- Supporting work with motors drives and electrical machines
- Using CAD and other engineering software (good IT skills essential)
Please note: This is not an electrical installation role you will not be involved in installing building electrical systems or carrying out site-based electrical work.
The Person
Knowledge Skills and Experience
- Experience of working in a Laboratory or Workshop environment
- Strong practical knowledge of essential electrical test equipment including proving units multimeters insulation testers socket testers and energy meters.
- A good theoretical and practical knowledge of the design modification calibration maintenance service and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and circuits.
- Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of safe electrical working practices and a thorough working knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
- Familiarity with electronic tools such as oscilloscopes and programmable DC power supplies is also beneficial.

Qualifications
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (equivalent to Level 4)
- Certified or willing to work towards BS:7671 IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
