Job Description

Introduction

Our client a leading muesli manufacturer based in North Riding is looking for a R&D Technologist.

The R&D Technologist will lead the research and product development efforts for granola granola bars and protein bars. This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end innovation process from concept development through commercialization while ensuring alignment with nutritional regulatory sensory and cost parameters. The ideal candidate has a strong background in food science nutrition and functional ingredient applications along with experience in bench development pilot trials and scaling for production.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • New Product Development
    • Lead the formulation and development of new granola granola bars and protein bars.
  • Process Development and Scale-Up
    • Translate kitchen formulas to manufacturing-ready processes.
  • Ingredient and Nutrition Management
    • Select and test functional ingredients proteins binders and natural sweeteners to meet label claims and dietary requirements (e.g. high-protein low-sugar gluten free).
  • Project Management
    • Manage multiple concurrent development projects with clear timelines milestones and deliverables.
  • Continuous Improvement and Optimisation
    • Monitor existing products for quality consistency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Regulatory and Quality Assurance Support
    • Collaborate with QA and regulatory teams to ensure products meet local and international food safety regulations.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Bachelors or masters degree in food science Food Technology National Diploma in food technology.
  • 5 years experience in food product development preferably in bar/snack or cereal/granola categories.
  • Strong knowledge of functional food ingredients (e.g. proteins fibers sweeteners binders chocolate).
  • Experience with extrusion baking and cold-forming technologies.
  • Knowledge of GFSI accreditation GMPs and food labelling regulations.
  • Experience with clean label vegan gluten-free or keto product development.
  • Project Management certification is a plus.
  • Experience in flavours chocolates is a plus.
