About the Agency

The Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) regulates the racing and wagering industry within the Commonwealth safeguarding public trust and ensuring accurate revenue collection and financial integrity. The VRCs Finance Division exists to uphold these objectives through effective budget management internal controls and comprehensive financial oversight of both the Commission and its licensees.

About the Position

The Auditor conducts detailed assessments of gaming operators financial records internal controls and reporting practices. Their work detects irregularities or risks in revenue reporting thus ensuring that operators fulfill all legal and regulatory obligations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of audit principles accounting standards and data analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with specialized software tools for auditing and financial investigations.
  • Strong organizational skills for planning and executing audit tasks under supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem-solving with attention to details to accurately identify discrepancies in financial statements or internal controls.
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to document findings in reports and to discuss them with the Lead Auditor or licensees.

A background investigation prior to employment is required for the successful candidate which will include medical clearance drug screen psychological evaluation fingerprint-based criminal history check and drivers license check. Also completion of a Statement of Economic Interest at the time of employment and annually is required thereafter. This position may be eligible for telework opportunities.
