Job Description

The roles of the Building-Based Substitute Teacher are to maintain classroom structures and to carry on the classroom procedures as if they were the regular teacher. Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students. The Building-Based Substitute Teacher will maintain the same responsibilities and the same duties as the regular teacher including bus duty and playground supervision the absence of the teacher provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth while following any lesson plans and/or instructions left by the classroom teacher. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Responsibilities: - Assigned to rotate into various teaching positions in the school on a daily basis and possibly throughout the day; working as part of the school community - Implement teacher lesson plans and administrator directives with fidelity and efficiency. - Communicate with classroom teachers and if necessary principal regarding expectations for student work behavior and lesson execution. - Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students. - Ensure the teachers absence does not cause an interruption in classroom instruction. - Gain familiarity with district curriculum and resources. - Attend and contribute to staff meetings and professional development activities. - Perform supervisory duties as assigned (such as lunch bus or recess duty). - Assist in the development of curricular materials as assigned. - Abide by state statutes school committee policies and regulations - Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by the principal or their designee. - Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities. - Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation. - Report all suspicions of abuse and/or neglect to DCF and the principal. - Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff personnel information - Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the Department. - Ability to be flexible with job assignments as needed. - Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology) - Assumes responsibility for other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned including implementing student behavior plans diapering/toileting young children and supporting students with medical equipment. Qualifications: -Must be able to relate well to teachers students other staff members and parents. - Must be a person of professional competence and personal integrity. - Bachelors Degree Required - DESE Licensure preferred - Previous substitute experience preferred -Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team to support students across the curriculum Ability to accept and implement directions - Consistent and dependable attendance for 180 school days Monday through Friday 7 hours per day- Experience working with Google products and implementing remote lessons as needed preferred Such alternatives to the above experiential requirements as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable Work Environment/Conditions: The school environment can be high energy and moderately noisy. Before/after school recess and field trips may require time outdoors in inclement weather. Frequent and prolonged standing and significant amounts of walking kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting is required. Occasional lifting of 35 pounds or more (may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment). Must have the ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Terms of Employment: One school year only interview required annually for reappointment at-will position non-union position benefits-eligible not eligible for overtime pay. FLSA Classification: Nonexempt.
