Position Overview: The goal of the Adjustment Counselor is to assist students in developing strategies that will increase positive growth and success. The responsibilities of this School Adjustment Counselor will be to support socially emotionally and behaviorally challenged students within the Student Success Center providing interventions and support for school engagement. NHCSB has two Student Success Centers for Middle School and High School students. This position would be responsible for supporting both locations. Essential Responsibilities:
Provide direct therapeutic services to students who access Student Success Center
Identify and assess academic and behavioral concerns through analysis of factors impacting student adjustment including factors at home school and within the community
Assist students in identifying modifying and/or changing behavior that interferes with achievement and school adjustment
Support Student Success Center Coordinator with restorative practices and other alternatives to suspension
Facilitate student mediations and targeted skill building groups (i.e health relationships conflict resolution etc )
Acts as a resource for students families and staff regarding any adjustment or social/emotional related problems
Develop and implement measurable goals and objectives which address students emotional needs.
Manage progress monitor data tracking system for individualized student success plans
Provide crisis intervention when necessary
Collaborate with Grade Level School Adjustments Counselors and other school district personnel
Ensure the security and maintenance of clinical confidentiality at all times
Support hospital and/or mental health truancy related re-entry plans
Support transition of students back to school after extended mental health absence
Provide strategies support and resources to help teachers manage social/emotional issues in the classroom
Maintain ongoing relationships with families and document communication/meetings
Provide self-regulation tools (fidgets coloring books journals) and opportunities for self-reflection to students who experience high levels of social/emotional need within SSC
Consult and collaborate with outside agencies and hospitals
Refer students and/or families to appropriate community agencies
Attend multidisciplinary meetings with clinical academic and discipline teams
Conduct classroom observations psycho-educational social skills groups and classroom presentations on identified areas of concern for the students
Participate as a member of school-based teams to develop interventions for promoting students academic success including modeling and coaching of strategies
Attend and participate in individual and group supervision with Clinical Director and Grade Level SACs
Maintain comprehensive records of student progress (clinical notes) and communication with families
Support district wide SEL and mental health initiatives
