Job Description

Accountant I (Temporary Full Time)

Financial Stewardship in Service to the Community

This is a temporary position.

Join a team where your accounting expertise helps ensure public resources are managed with accuracy transparency and accountability. Your work will support the essential services libraries provide to our community.

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking an Accountant I (Temporary Full Time) to process financial transactions support procurement activities and maintain precise financial records. In this role you will collaborate with staff across the district to provide the financial foundation that allows our libraries to remain accessible innovative and community focused.

About the Role You will work within the Finance Department alongside experienced accountants and administrative staff supporting library locations and departments district addition to processing transactions and assisting with month end closings you will contribute to procurement activities vendor relations and the preparation of audit and financial reporting materials. This position offers a broad range of responsibilities that will strengthen both your technical and collaborative skills in a public service environment.

Key Responsibilities

Processing Transactions

  • Prepare and compile journal entries using accrual accounting
  • Ensure transactions comply with Library District policies
  • Generate reports from accounting software to support accurate recordkeeping

Month End Closing

  • Review account balances and reconcile detail reports to the general ledger
  • Perform inquiries to obtain missing information or verify unusual data
  • Review assigned journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness

Technical Assistance and Internal Controls

  • Provide accounting guidance and explanations to staff and departments
  • Research discrepancies and assist other accountants as needed
  • Assist with implementing new procedures to improve efficiency
  • Provide backup cash register receipt training

Reporting Audit and ACFR Support

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing audit and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report materials

Procurement Support

  • Provide backup to the Purchasing Coordinator for vendor purchase order invoice payment and contract management tasks
  • Verify vendor tax identification numbers and maintain accurate vendor records
  • Manage credit card transactions issue new purchase cards and maintain supporting documentation
  • Assist with vendor solicitation processes including logistics documentation and compliance checks
  • Maintain vendor contract records monitor expiration dates and ensure Certificates of Insurance are current

Qualifications

Required:

  • Equivalent to an associates degree in accounting
  • Two to five years of related experience such as Staff Accountant or Junior Accountant
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft 365 (Word Excel Outlook) Microsoft Teams and accounting software
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Preferred:

  • Governmental accounting experience (GASB standards)
  • Nonprofit accounting experience (FASB standards)
  • Experience with Tyler Technologies ERP PRO 10 or other fund accounting software
