Job Description

Job Title: Welding/Advanced Welding Teacher

Reports to: Campus Principal/CTE Director

Dept/School: CEC

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Contract: 187 days

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in welding/advanced welding agricultural science and/or technology edcuation (grades 6-12)

OR

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in Trade and Industrial Education Grades 6 - 12 current welding licensure by a state or nationally recognized accrediting agency

OR

  • Bachelors degree from accredited university 2 years of full-time wage-earning welding experience within the past 10 years

OR

  • Associates degree from accredited university 2 years of full-time wage-earning welding experience within the past 10 years

OR

  • High school diploma (or equilvalent) 5 years of full-time wage-earning welding experience within the past 10 years.

Must have adequate experience and training in welding to teach the required welding skills

Welding license preferred


Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of welding and welding technology
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction of CTE Industrial Welding Technology
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to supervise field experiences
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:
At least one year student teaching or approved internship

Major Responsibilities:

Instructional Strategies:

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of current TEKS and show written evidence of preparation as required.

Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the needs of students assigned.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.
Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development:

Plan and conduct leadership citizenship cooperative career development and competitive activities for students at local regional and state level.
Assist with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs relating to welding technology.

Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
Be a positive role model for students.

Support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization:
Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests workshops and field trips associated with the welding program.
Oversee process of maintaining facilities and equipment including the welding learning lab welding classroom and any other facilities that encompass welding support.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
Participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).

Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students counselors principals and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development:
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Other:

Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress.

Occasional district and regional travel occasional statewide travel prolonged and irregular hours. Regular lifting and carrying moderate weight frequent standing stooping bending pulling and pushing.

Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and around machinery with moving parts.

Exposure to extreme temperatures and biological and chemical hazards.
