Job Description

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on vulnerable populations Ready to take your human services and administrative expertise to the next level within a dynamic mission-driven team Were looking for a compassionate and skilled Human Services Specialist to join our innovative work family at the Prince William County Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center.

The ADC is a well-established agency in Prince William County VA. We provide safety and security for our staff and the individuals in our care while protecting the residents of Prince William County. This position will involve direct contact with inmates housed at the facility.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

As the Human Services Specialist you will assess and assist eligible inmates with Medicaid and other available social services. You will directly support and enhance the lives of individuals by providing valuable information and guidance regarding critical community resources and essential programs. The Human Services Specialist plays a vital role in assisting the agency by providing direct program support work in the areas of client oversight social services and customer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:(These responsibilities are a representative sample; other assigned duties may apply.)

  • Conduct in-person interviews to assist inmates in applying for Medicaid and related social services.
  • Provide individual and group sessions for eligible individuals regarding Medicaid and other available services.
  • Provide clear information about community resources tailored to individual needs.
  • Interpret and apply Medicaid/social service policies independently and with sound judgment.
  • Assist with Re-Entry needs and coordinate necessary services for inmates being released.
  • Collaborate closely with medical mental health and classification teams as needed.
  • Provide case management activities for inmates such as referrals monitoring and coordination of external services.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date records using Microsoft Office Suite and online databases.
  • Analyze risk and assist with ensuring the safety of staff and inmates.

Interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisors and the general public.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONTRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of related experience

PREFERENCES:

Associates degree in human services social services social work or a related field and 2 years of related experience.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Typical schedule will be Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm (40 hrs./wk.).

HIRING RANGE:
$25.44 to $36.98per hour (Minimum to Midpoint)

FLSA: NON EXEMPT


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Must pass a criminal history background investigation to include fingerprint and driving record check.
  • Must pass a polygraph examination.
  • Must pass a pre-employment medical assessment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require reaching standing walking talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions. May also require exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met
