Position Information
- TheDepartment of Parks and Recreationis looking for aChemical Treatment Worker Ito mix spray and apply a variety of insecticides fungicides herbicides and fertilizers to park areas grasses shrubbery and trees to maintain healthy vegetation and landscaped areas.
As a Chemical Treatment Worker I your duties and responsibilities will include:- Loading chemicals fertilizers and soil amendments to trucks or fertilizer spreader and assisting in measuring and mixing chemicals (herbicides insecticides fungicides liquid fertilizers etc.)
- Applying chemicals with various types of equipment such as power sprayers foggers soil injectors to turf trees shrubs and ornamental plants operating a hand fertilizer in areas inaccessible or impractical to fertilize with bulk fertilizer spreader.
- Applying a working knowledge of the classifications function and use of agricultural chemicals such as non-selective selective and contact-systemic herbicides and insecticides of common weeds (crabgrass Hilo grass dallis grass plantain oxalis etc.).
- Applying a working knowledge of common insect pests (army worms sod-web worms mealy bugs oyster scale ground termites honey bees paper wasp carpenter bees and rats etc.).
- Performing routine maintenance of tractors and related equipment to include cleaning trucks tractors and equipment for physical cleanliness and chemical neutralization.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care maintenance and beautification of landscaped areas including the spraying and application of a variety of agricultural chemicals.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license as required.
CURRENT VACANCIES:
The current vacancies require the followingprior to appointment:1. Valid Hawaii State drivers license (automobile/Type 3);2. DOT Medical Card (Non-CDL);3. Pulmonary Function Test (PFT); and4. Hearing Conservation Program (HCP).
NOTE:Some of the above certificates are obtained during the pre-employment medical evaluation process. Any required licenses and certificates must be obtained by the time indicated above and maintained throughout the course of employment in the position.Examination Process
