Internal Posting - Only Permanent North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) employees in a permanent full-time permanent part-time probationary trainee or time-limited position or a layoff candidate with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by General Statute (GS) 126 (State Personnel Act) may apply.

This posting represents two (2) Transportation Worker III positions located in the Yadkin County Maintenance unit. Position numbers and will be filled from this posting. You only need to apply once to be considered for both positions.

This posting is for Positions and for a Transportation Worker III in the Yadkin County Maintenance unit. Must be able to supervise and train others in equipment operations as well as directing the daily activities of a work crew. Work includes setting up work zones installing traffic control devices repairing asphalt pavements clearing right of way debris and hazards assisting with pipe installation and operating a variety of hand and power tools. Work also includes the operation of various equipment as needed on different crews that includes but is not limited to a backhoe tandem dump truck motor grader front end loader forklift force feed loader asphalt distributor asphalt patcher crack sealing machine track excavators skid steer or sweeper. Work involves shoveling raking sweeping and walking and standing for long periods of time. Worker in this position will be exposed to all types of weather conditions; and steep and uneven terrain. This position responds to emergencies such as snow and ice removal downed trees traffic control cleanup etc. during normal business hours or during emergency call back situations and scheduled night work. May require work during nontraditional work hours including nights weekends and holidays. This position is also subject to out-of-town travel during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances. May perform a variety of other duties as assigned.

Additional Expectations
Employee in this position must have working knowledge of the principals involved in the operation and use of the equipment to which assigned. Ability to perform assigned tasks and to follow oral and written instructions as directed by Supervisor. Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties. Employee must have ability to climb bend traverse steep and uneven terrain and work in extreme temperature conditions. Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Safety toes shoes are required. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License. Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substance and alcohol testing.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and five years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements
