About Us & the Role:LABBB Collaborative provides educational programming and support services for over 300 special needs students from over 65 districts. LABBB serves students ages 3 to 22 years old with a variety of special needs including students on the autism spectrum students with multi-handicaps pervasive development disorders developmental delays language deficits and social/emotional challenges. The LABBB community has a vision of skill-based instruction that considers the whole student from early childhood to adult living. LABBB is hiring an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to work with students with mild to moderate intellectual and or neurological disorders. The APE Teacher works directly under the supervision of the Department Head and Program Director and acts as a member of a students multidisciplinary team in providing academic behavioral transition and therapeutic support to students throughout the day; implements direct instruction actively supervises students and ensures that the physical and emotional needs of children are being met on a daily basis.

Job Requirements:Masters degree from an approved Special Education or General Education Teaching program Valid License/Certification to practice as a Physical Education Teacher in Massachusetts Physical EducationAPE certification and experience in Adapted Physical Education Valid CPR/first aid certification Valid lifeguard/water safety certification/Advanced Life Saving Certificate Strong background in use of assistive technology and equipment related to APE Willingness and experience working with students with a variety of disabilities with a focus on social emotional needs who are potentially presented with challenging behaviors. Valid drivers license and ability to drive LABBB vans and commute between buildings/programs during the full time (35 hours per week) 11 months (school calendar plus required 4 weeks in summer)

Responsibilities:Provide direct APE services for children and adolescents in accordance with all applicable federal state and local codes and regulations for educational and school-based purposes Use observation and various formal and informal assessments to conduct appropriate assessments of students in all phases of the evaluation process as related to APE in the school setting Work with classroom teams to write and implement goals objectives accommodations modifications service delivery transition planning and summary of student performance as needed for the IEP Attend required staff meetings; professional development trainings; and serve as appropriate on staff committees Provide access to grade level PE and Health curriculum to all students at the level they are ready to receive it Create and modify physical education and health curriculum materials according to the student abilities and needs Ensure safety of students in all environments Complete regular documentation including data collection progress notes individualized education plans formal and informal assessments and Medicaid billing as indicated Supervise APE Assistants Maintain familiarity with standardized tests and therapy materials and devices and to make recommendations for the acquisition of such items when they are required for therapy. Familiarize oneself with new equipment and technologies as are required to deliver optimum services. Support students development of independence social awareness language academic skills and appropriate behavior Provide and facilitate meaningful inclusion opportunities for students into regular education classrooms as indicated Create and modify materials supports and instructional strategies as necessary to meet students needs in the classroom and community settings Participate in the referral process as requested (review referral documents conduct student visits conduct student observations assist in gathering additional information needed to help determine appropriateness of placement at LABBB. Collaborate with members of multidisciplinary teams including teachers BCBA OT PT SLP Counselors and Vision providers and implement treatment plans as needed or requested to support skill development generalization and transition planning across settings and throughout the day. Support students personal care needs which may include activities of daily living (ADLs) such as communication toileting feeding transferring self-care and assistance with mobility including lifting Supervise students across educational settings including at lunch and in the community

Salary Range: $72457 to $133474 commensurate with experience and education. *2025-2026 Salary range is for school year and includes compensation for required 4-week summer program.
