We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Lead Travel Mechanic to serve as a cornerstone of our Custom Automation field operations. This is a critical leadership role for an individual who embodies unparalleled technical expertise exceptional problem-solving acumen and a proven ability to lead complex projects from installation through ongoing optimization. You will be instrumental in overseeing major deployments resolving the most intricate technical challenges and acting as a primary technical liaison for our valued clients.

As our Lead Travel Mechanic you will not only tackle advanced mechanical electrical and control system issues but also mentor and develop a team of field service professionals. Your deep understanding of diverse industrial environments and commitment to delivering turn-key excellence will directly contribute to client satisfaction and our reputation as a leader in bespoke automation. This position offers the opportunity to drive operational efficiency and contribute to the continuous improvement of our innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the lead technical expert for complex installations upgrades and troubleshooting of custom automation machinery.
  • Direct on-site service teams providing leadership training and technical guidance to ensure successful project execution.
  • Perform highly advanced diagnostics and root cause analysis on integrated mechanical electrical pneumatic hydraulic and sophisticated control systems (PLCs motion control robotics).
  • Collaborate with engineering and R&D to provide crucial field feedback driving continuous product improvement and innovation.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to optimize machine uptime and performance for clients.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with client technical and operational teams ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
  • Manage service documentation ensuring accuracy completeness and timely submission for all projects.
  • Champion safety protocols and best practices across all field operations.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechatronics or a related technical discipline; or equivalent extensive practical experience.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in field service industrial maintenance or automation engineering with significant experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated mastery of industrial automation components including advanced PLC programming fundamentals (diagnostic modification) HMI development servo/stepper systems and industrial networking.
  • Proficient in interpreting and creating complex electrical schematics pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams and detailed mechanical assembly drawings.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage projects mentor staff and resolve high-stakes technical challenges independently.
  • Exceptional communication negotiation and client relationship management skills.
  • Valid drivers license and the flexibility to travel extensively (up to 80-90% including frequent overnight and extended stays).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with multi-axis robotics vision systems and advanced sensor integration.
  • Certifications in specific automation platforms (e.g. Rockwell Siemens).
  • Experience in project management methodologies and tools.
  • A strong desire to continuously pivot and adapt to new technologies and client needs within the evolving automation landscape.
