Our Submarines business is world leading in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navys Nuclear Submarine Fleet. It is the sole provider and technical authority managing all aspects of plant design safety manufacture performance and through-life support.
The New Build & Components (NB&C) business unit is responsible for Component Delivery Engineering and New Build Programmes and for our integration with the shipbuilder in Barrow in Furness through our site-based teams. The focus for NB&C is on delivering our remaining Astute platforms to sea Dreadnought the UKs top defence priority and most important programme in a generation and preparing for new product introduction and facility expansion programmes for SSN-AUKUS.
The Dreadnought build programme is now mature with 3 submarines in build at BAE Systems Barrow in Furness. The next phase of the programme offers a wealth of engineering and programmatic challenges and the opportunity to work within a highly motivated team to deliver this highly complex strategic capability to the Royal Navy.
The Technical Manager Dreadnought Joint Reactor Team will provide engineering support to engineering teams in Derby and site-based teams in Barrow to enable the build & commissioning of the Dreadnought class Nuclear Steam Raising Plants (NSRP) and assurance that design intent is maintained through build test and commissioning. This engineering role is a key interface between the shipbuilder BAE Systems and the Rolls-Royce Technical Authority.
The Technical Manager will work between the Head of the Joint Reactor Team and the Assistant Chief Engineer for Build and Commissioning alongside the existing Technical Managers. Day to day you will work closely with the Dreadnought Joint Reactor Team PWR3 Chief Engineers Team and Rolls-Royce Site Office to provide a highly collaborative service to the shipbuilder.
What you will be doing
Youll lead engage and motivate the engineering and programme teams in Derby and at site to operate at the highest standards and deliver exceptional service.
You will work with the existing engineering and programme teams to provide engineering oversight and governance of PWR3 build and commissioning taking formal delegated authority from the Chief Engineer.
Youll lead the response to technical issues as they arise at the shipyard and be responsible for implementing solutions that protect the build programme.
Youll develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the Submarines Enterprise to ensure the appropriate balance between technical and programme decisions are consistently made across all key phases of boat construction and drive the best outcomes for the Astute programme.
Identify and prosecute improvements across the enterprise to reduce time complexity and risk from our build and commissioning activities in Barrow
