An opportunity exists to join the Vascular Surgery team at St Vincents Hospital Sydney.
POSITION PURPOSE
The purpose of the position is to provide exposure to all Vascular surgical cases under the guidance of a term supervisor.

Patient Care
- To provide appropriate care for Vascular Surgery patients before during and after surgery. This provision of care to take place in wards Intensive Care Emergency and preadmission these responsibilities the trainee will have supervision appropriate to someone at the trainees level of experience
- Day to day management of inpatients under the direction or supervision of the appropriate VMO / Staff Specialist
- Provision of a consultation service for Vascular Surgery inpatients of other teams in the hospital
- Ward Rounds
- Notification to the appropriate VMO / Staff Specialist of patients requiring acute admission to hospital under their care
- Organisation of admissions and discharges (including discharge summaries)
- Organisation of waiting lists and theatre lists
- Assessment and formulation of a management plan for patients presenting for care
- Communication of assessment and management decisions to appropriate VMO / Staff Specialist junior medical staff and other staff involved in the patients care
- Communication with the patient or with immediate family where appropriate about the patients condition and management
- Ensuring that accurate and relevant patient documentation exists
- Communicating and coordinating effectively with other health professionals in regard to management plans diagnostic requests and consultations
- Regular review of patient progress and communication of any significant changes in the patients condition to the VMO / Staff Specialist and nursing staff
- Initiation of change to the management plan within limitations set out by agreement with the VMO / Staff Specialist
- Management of unstable patients and ensuring an adequate handover to after-hours medical staff
- Supervision of students interns and residents attached to the department
- Carry Trauma page and respond appropriately to trauma calls from the Emergency Department
- Maintenance of confidentiality of all Hospital Records activities and information
Teaching
- To take part in teaching techniques of Vascular Surgery to residents and interns
- Teaching and education of junior medical staff and medical students
- Teaching and education of nursing staff and other ancillary staff where appropriate
- To take part in undergraduate teaching both in tutorials and in informal teaching in the operating theatre
- Presentation of cases at the weekly vascular x-ray meeting(Thursday 0700 via TEAMS)
- Participation in the Hospitals Surgical & Trauma Grand Rounds as required
- Participation in Journal Club
Research and Quality Improvement
- Participation in the Departments research projects
- Participation in the Quality Improvement activities of the department
After Hours Responsibilities
- Participation in the department / unit after hours on call roster between one in two to one in three
