The Richards Civil War Era Center and the Department of History at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor in the field of U.S. History with a connection to the study of the Civil War Era beginning Fall 2025 with flexibility. The candidate will also serve as Assistant Program Director of the George and Ann Richards Civil War Era Center for the academic year.
Responsibilities for the History Department include teaching at least one course per semester. Responsibilities within the Richards Center include working closely with the Director of the Richards Center and Center staff to coordinate the Centers various fellowships and internal programs work with alumni and participate in academic searches.
Candidates for the Assistant Research Professor position must have a Ph.D. in History by the date of the appointment. This is a non-tenure-track position. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in Civil War Era-scholarship and have previous experience working with or in U.S. History Institutes or Centers.
