Job Description

OVERVIEW

The Hours are as follows: Sunday Monday and Thursday- 10pm-6am Wednesday-8am-6pm

The Counseling and Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Department provides a continuum of essential services to the most vulnerable youth in our community including two crisis nurseries an emergency shelter permanent and transitional housing a food and clothing pantry street outreach and support for minor victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

The emergency shelter team provides survival-support services to runaway and homeless youth 24 hours/day 7 days/week year-round. Staff engage and establish mutually respectful trusting relationships with youth. Youth are approached from a strengths-based perspective. The goal is to provide emergency care and support to RHY in a safe respectful environment and to work with them to resolve the issues that led to their homelessness so that they can ultimately secure and maintain a stable living environment.

The Supervisor assists the Manager with oversight of operations and programming at The Center House with special emphasis on the overnight shifts. Duties include assisting with supervision training and coaching of overnight staff; administrative assignments; facility management and direct client care.

This position is full-time at 38 hours per week and includes three overnight shifts and one day shift per week. Flexibility is required to provide supervision and training at least twice a month to overnight staff who work different shifts throughout the week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Administrative responsibilities include:

  • Assist the leadership team with oversight of Overnight Emergency Shelter Counselors (i.e.

screening hiring orientation professional development mentoring)

  • Provide Individual and Group supervision to overnight staff
  • Teaming with other RHY programs
  • Quality Assurance- both program and client
  • Consultation- both program and client
  • Pursuit of professional development
  • Supervision of daily/nightly program
  • Oversight of the overnight shelter schedule which includes approval of PTO and arranging coverage.

Direct Service responsibilities include:

  • Assurance of a respectful cooperative environment
  • Maintenance client confidentiality consistent with agency policies
  • Crisis prevention/intervention and conflict resolution
  • Promote teaming with daytime Emergency Shelter Counselors
  • Active participation in individual and group supervision
  • Special focus on assisting with data entry and maintenance of client files
  • Individual counseling and mentoring
  • Maintenance of facility and grounds
  • After-hours intake assessment information and referral
  • Transportation of clients as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

Candidates must be:

  • Sensitive to the cultural issues and needs of staff and clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders (i.e. youth peers supervisees referral sources law enforcement)
  • Able to work evenings weekends and holidays as needed and assigned

Candidates must possess significant knowledge of and skills related to:

In addition to the above it is mandatory that prior to hire a candidate have or be willing to obtain:

  • A valid NYS drivers license
  • A driving record acceptable to agency insurance carrier
  • Regular access to a motor vehicle
  • Automobile insurance at the level of $300000 per accident/$100000 per person Bodily Injury and $50000 Property Damage
  • A telephone

CULTURAL COMPETENCY:

The Center delivers programs and services to youth and families across Monroe County who represent many racial cultural and geographic groups. The Center ensures understanding and values differences in people of diverse cultures ethnic origins sexual orientations disabilities and beliefs. All staff are required to attend cultural competency workshops and trainings and to continually enhance their own understanding of cultural diversity. The Center Performance Appraisal administered annually provides an opportunity for staff to evaluate how they are integrating culturally competent practices into everyday work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Center House is a three-story residence and candidates must be autonomously mobile and able to work anywhere within the facility. Candidates must be able to participate in the maintenance of the facility and grounds and to operate program motor vehicles (vans).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors Degree in Human Services related field and minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience and 2 years experience working with adolescents or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
