Bethel School Districtis seeking qualified applicantsfor an 8 hour per day Crew Leader at Kalapuya High School.

Overview Responsibilities:

The Crew Leader plans organizes and leads construction and conservation-related work projects including small construction projects trail building and maintenance stream bank and wetlands restoration landscaping and invasive species removal. She/he must be able to work with youth of varied backgrounds cultures abilities and gender creating an environment conducive to the development of work skills and personal growth. Responsible for weekly and final project reports student timesheets and final crew member evaluations.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: A bachelors degree is preferred or a 2 year associates degree. A science background is preferred. Must have vocational/technical training in at least one of the following: landscape architecture forestry resource management conservation wetland management environmental studies park management carpentry construction or related fields.
  2. Experience: Supervisory experience working with diverse and at-risk youth preferably an on-the-job training setting of general construction trail building conservation or youth services corps work program. One year small group/classroom instruction experience. Alternative education setting helpful.
  3. Drivers License: Valid in Oregon acceptable record and insurability under Agencys auto insurance.
  4. Experience driving a 15-passenger van and ability to obtain Oregon Department of Education School Activity Drivers Certificate.
  5. Ability to perform strenuous work assignments under adverse weather conditions in both indoor and outdoor settings; ability to lift up to 50lbs. and perform twisting and swinging motions
  6. Current first-aid certification or ability and willingness to obtain one.
  7. Knowledge of safe working practices. Ability to use and teach others the safe and proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  8. Skill in advising conferring and cooperating with land management agencies county city and other municipalities.
  9. Ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team.
  10. Ability to relate effectively with youth parents community and referral sources.
  11. Ability to work in a stressful unstructured environment and maintain a positive mental attitude.
  12. Good communication skills.
  13. Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  15. Professional appearance appropriate to position.

Specific Duties:

  1. Orients supervises trains and evaluates a crew of young adults ages 14-18.
  2. Instructs youth in educational and vocational activities associated with work projects and provides feedback on performance.
  3. Develops and maintains a strong sense of team/teamwork for the crew.
  4. Attends trainings and meetings as appropriate.
  5. Maintains records on attendance crew activities and completes project reports.
  6. Coordinates work progress and project completion schedules with other Crew Supervisor and project sponsors.
  7. Maintains program van including arranging for or completing regular maintenance work and cleaning.
  8. Maintains tool inventory and regular cleaning sharpening and repairs of program tools.
  9. Build relationships with local area businesses organizations government agencies to establish appropriate worksites and fee for work contracts.
  10. Employee will report to multiple supervisors.
  11. Completes other duties as assigned.

Upon offer of employment applicants must obtain a fingerprint clearance from the Oregon Department of Education through a process authorized by the Bethel School District. Applicants would be responsible for the one-time fingerprint clearance fee.
