Position: Sr. Staff Accountant Reports To: VP of Finance Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Compensation: $70000-$90000 per year plus Bonus (DOE) Location: Hillside IL
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant for a full-time on-site role in the Greater Chicago this key position you will be responsible for executing and overseeing core accounting functions including maintaining the general ledger preparing accurate financial statements and reports and managing the month-end and year-end close processes. You will also take ownership of account reconciliations monitor accounts payable and receivable and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls. Additionally you will play a critical role in supporting annual audits improving accounting processes and providing financial insights that support strategic business decisions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the preparation and review of accurate timely financial statements ensuring consistency with GAAP and company policies.
Own the month-end and year-end close processes including the preparation and review of complex journal entries accruals and account reconciliations.
Analyze and reconcile complex general ledger accounts proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies to maintain financial integrity.
Develop and deliver comprehensive financial reports and variance analyses to senior management offering insights that inform strategic decision-making.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external auditors during audits preparing detailed audit schedules and ensuring timely access to required documentation.
Partner with FP&A and operational teams to support annual budgeting and rolling forecasts delivering data-driven insights to improve financial planning.
Assist with cash flow management treasury functions and intercompany transactions to ensure accuracy and liquidity.
Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Operations HR and Legal to align financial data with business initiatives.
Support tax compliance efforts including sales/use tax filings 1099 reporting and coordination with tax advisors for corporate filings.
Research and interpret new accounting standards or regulatory changes assessing their impact and ensuring timely compliance.
Conduct periodic reviews of accounting processes and internal controls identifying opportunities for standardization and efficiency improvements.
Adhere to GAAP SOX and internal control standards recommending process improvements to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
Participate in special projects such as due diligence system migrations or financial modeling for new initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field; CPA or progress toward CPA certification strongly preferred
46 years of progressive accounting experience preferably in a mid to large-sized organization
Strong knowledge of GAAP internal controls and standard accounting practices
Hands-on experience with month-end/year-end close general ledger maintenance and financial reporting
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. NetSuite SAP QuickBooks or similar ERP systems); advanced Excel skills required
Proven ability to perform and review complex account reconciliations and journal entries with a high level of accuracy
Experience supporting audits including preparation of schedules and working with external auditors
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across departments and with leadership
EDUCATION:
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
CPA CMA or other relevant certifications preferred
EXPERIENCE:
8 Years total in accounting or finance with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Team of at least 1-3 direct reports
Prior industry or Industry adjacent experience:
Staffing or recruiting agencies
High-Volume service industries
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bi-Lingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
Strong knowledge of general accounting principles GAAP and financial reporting
Experience in managing month-end and year-end closing processes
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite;
Microsoft Business Central / Emburse / High Radius
Ability to analyze financial data and generate reports
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field
CPA certification is a plus
Experience in the staffing or light industrial sector is a plus
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
