Short Term Upper School Chemistry / Physics Teacher


About Charleston Collegiate:

Charleston Collegiate School (CCS) is an independent co-educational non-sectarian day school serving students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Situated on a picturesque 60-acre campus of playing fields wooded trails and an outdoor education center CCS is located on Johns Islandjust 20 minutes from Charlestons historic district and the beach resorts of Kiawah and Seabrook Islands. Job Summary:

Charleston Collegiate is seeking a short-term Upper School Biology / Environmental teacher who will be responsible for teaching Biology AP Environmental Science. and an elective Forensics course. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of success teaching at a high school level with a particular emphasis on biology and/or environmental science. While this position focuses on biology and environmental science courses Charleston Collegiate values multi-talented teachers. So while the ability to teach all levels of high school biology and environmental science is preferred the ability to offer science disciplines is a plus.

  • Scaffold instruction to meet individual student needs using data to inform teaching practices and monitor progress in line with academic standards and outcomes.
  • Partner with colleagues to align teaching practices and share ideas for interdisciplinary learning.
  • Communicate effectively with families about student progress successes and challenges.
  • Stay informed on best practices in secondary education participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the CCS learning community.
  • Incorporate opportunities for students to engage with the local community fostering connections that support learning and community integration.
  • A positive can-do attitude and growth mindset
  • A willingness to participate in student-life activities e.g. advisory club leadership coaching after-school programs
  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a relevant subject discipline e.g. Education biology or environmental science
  • A minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Independent school experience
  • Advanced degree / postgraduate qualification
  • The ability to teach other subject disciplines and elective courses
