ABOUT THE STUDENTS UNION
The University of Alberta Students Union (UASU) is the official student-run organization for undergraduates at the University of Alberta. We aim to improve the student experience through the services events and spaces that we provide. We also provide advocacy on behalf of students within the university community and to all levels of government.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Sustain SU for the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms! We are currently recruiting for the Green For Good Market Team Special Events Team the Thrift Store Team and the Sustainable Actions Team. The Deadline to apply will be September 8th 2025.
Green For Good Market:
These volunteers will help run our monthly market located on the first floor of SUB! Theyll do lots of tabling planning and running fun events to promote sustainability as well as chatting with and getting to know our lovely market vendors! If you like talking about and promoting sustainability this is the position for you!
Special Events Team
This team is tasked with planning out sustainability focused events across campus. Last year they planned out a fabulously successful research night where students shared their sustainability-focused research. This year the team is growing and open to planning many more events!
Sustainable Actions Team
This team is for those of you who love to research! This team is tasked with researching and writing content for the SustainSU blog and podcast! If you fancy yourself a writer or aspiring podcaster this is for you!
Thrift Store Team
This team is running our brand new initiative: the SustainSU thrift store! (Store name is no longer pending! Its Sub-sprout!!) theyll be on the ground running the store sorting clothes and running fun thrift-related initiatives! This is a very broad program with lots of room to grow (little joke there!) and make it your own!
VOLUNTEER OPTIONS
Sustainability Ambassadors (3-5 hours per week Mid-September through April 2026): this is a General volunteer position with one of our this position youll be on the ground running our programs alongside the Leadership Team Volunteers and the SustainSU Coordinator. SAs often work to help plan and pull off events do research for our blog and podcast and of course help with the day to day operations of the Thrift Store!
This is a fairly low commitment volunteer opportunity and one with no barrier of entry! You dont need to know anything about sustainability only need a desire to learn!
