Job Description

This is recreation work leading activities and assisting with recreation programs and services within established guidelines. This includes working to ensure a positive experience for participants in programs and services. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a superior in terms of effectiveness of instruction and conformance to established practices.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assists and provides instruction for planned programs and services in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Prepares room(s) and equipment necessary for program/activity.
  • Stores program equipment safely following the end of the program or activity.
  • Provides support to participants / users.
  • Performs other related duties as required

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Standard First Aid
  • Leadership Training
  • Working knowledge of the fundamentals of recreation leadership.
  • Some knowledge of activities required to be successful in the area of assignment.
  • Ability to comprehend the principles practices and objectives of community recreation programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively establish and maintain effective working relationship with a diverse range of individuals and groups of all ages both internal and external.
  • Ability to maintain control with tact and consistency and provide instruction in a safe fun controlled and organized manner.
  • Ability to understand follow and carry-out oral and written communications.

  • An hourly starting wage of $18.03 plus 12% in lieu of vacation and statutory holiday pay plus a living wage adjustment (total compensation - $28.49/hour 2025 rate of pay)
