Summer Activity Camp Instructor- Clay (Montlake Community Center)
The Associated Recreation Council (ARC) in partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation is hiring an Activity Camp Clay Camp Instructor to deliver camps at Montlake Community Center. The Clay Camp Instructor will be responsible for programming and delivering Summer Clay Camps to children aged 7-13 years. The Instructor will be responsible for creating lessons and teaching the fundamentals of clay/pottery making. The instructor must have the ability to engage with a diverse group of children and manage a classroom of students. A passion for teaching and pottery are a must!
Schedule
- Monday Friday approx. 23.75 hours per week. Approx. 11:45am-4:30pm (with participants 1-4pm / 1.75 hours paid prep per day). Hours not guaranteed and depend on enrollment.
- Hiring by Date: June 5 2025
- Training dates: On-site training will occur sometime between June 25 and June 27 2025
- Program dates: June 30th August 22nd 2025
Summer Activity Camp Instructor- Clayresponsibilities:
Programming:
- Develop and deliver developmentally appropriate activity camp lesson plans/activities in the subject area of clay/pottery for ages 7-13
- Instructors are expected to program their camps with support from the Activity Camp Administrator
- Use critical thinking to problem-solve
- Generate supply lists for camp; there will be some class supply funds available
- Maintain camp appropriate professional appearance
- Daily set-up take down and cleaning of space
- Reports to Associated Recreation Council Activity Camp Administrator
Relationship Building:
- Create a safe welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants
- Collaborate with Activity Camp Administrator and other on-site staff to ensure safety of all participants
- Collaborate with Activity Camp Supervisor to manage behavioral concerns of all participants
- Communicate with parents coworkers and Seattle Parks and Recreation partners in a professional and courteous manner
- Attend all required meetings and trainings
Care and Safety:
- Follow safety protocols and ensure participant compliance
- Complete required accident/incident forms
Summer Activity Camp Instructor- Clayminimum qualification:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Prior youth programming experience required
- Prior pottery and clay experience required
- If hired you will have approximately 2 hours of Human Resources new hire onboarding/trainingand 8-12 hours of on-site on-boarding/training which will include behavior management programming parent communication reporting procedures etc.
- If hired must successfully complete/pass a background check
- If hired must provide proof of eligibility to work in the US and valid government issued ID andsign up for direct deposit with either checking or savings account
Additional Preferred Requirements
- Preference given to instructors available for all or most of the summer however if you can only work for some of the summer weeks you are still encouraged to apply
- Preference given to candidates who have led comparable programs for youth
Pay:
- Starting pay: $26.50
- Full Pay Range: $26.50- $29.36/hourDOE/non-exempt
