How youll contribute
The Assessment Specialist receives inquiry calls and assists the caller with scheduling a face-to-face assessment or triage to the appropriate community referral. Additional responsibilities include:
Assesses or ensures assessment by a qualified mental health professional of patients who present for assessment.
Screens for medical and behavioral emergency conditions.
Performs a comprehensive assessment and quality therapeutic care to patients seeking treatment for substance abuse dual diagnosis or psychiatric or emotional disorders; coordinates with the clinical team/on-call physician to ensure these needs are met either at the facility or other appropriate community providers.
Interprets treatment to patients and family to help reduce fear and other attitudes obstructing acceptance of care and continuation of treatment.
Completes the administrative process of admission and precertification of care with external payers as necessary.

Qualifications and requirements
Masters degree in social work or counseling required. RN licensure may be used in place of a masters degree or per state regulations or social services designee in the states of Indiana. Ohio assessment specialists must have the following a SWA (must meet states requirements) BSW MSW or RN is eligible. Arizona assessment specialists must have the following behavioral health technicians or registered nurses within 24 hours behavioral health professionals are supervised by a facility licensed professional and are eligible. For Indiana an individual with a bachelors degree is under the supervision of a facility-licensed professional.
