Job Highlights
:
Ophthalmic Technicians at UAB Callahan Eye play a key role in providing high quality patient care. Primary responsibilities include assisting with eye exams performing technical workups documenting medical history preparing and/or administering medications and providing assistance during minor procedures. The ideal candidate for this role has a keen attention to detail strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to patient safety and comfort. UAB Callahan Eye offers ongoing training and development opportunities for career growth through a structured path which includes support to obtain relevant certifications. The shift for this full-time opportunity is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Job Description:
- Administer preliminary testing and measurements to assess patients vision and eye health.
- Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort.
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations treatments and surgical procedures. Sets up and cleans up procedures.
- Acts as scribe while the physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records or paper chart.
- Maintain and operate ophthalmic equipment ensuring it is clean and functioning properly.
- Document patients medical history and examination results accurately in electronic health records.
- Provide patient education on eye health treatment plans and post-operative care.
- Schedule appointments and manage patient flow efficiently.
- Orders supplies.
- Assists in training of other ophthalmic technicians.
- Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Acts in accordance with all State and Federal regulations.
- Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation self-motivation courtesy and professionalism.
- Potential for travel between hospital and satellite clinics.

Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be able to travel between hospital and satellite clinics as needed


Preferred:
- Associates degree in ophthalmic technology or related field.

Previous experience in an ophthalmic setting and familiarity with ophthalmic medical equipment.

Proficiency in medical terminology coding and billing procedures.
-
Basic math including multiplication and computer skills typing a minimum of 25 words per minute.
- Experience in a medical office or health care setting.
