Job Description

This is a hybrid position with a minimal on-site requirement for meetings or events.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented RN Clinical Database Specialist to join our team with a primary focus on managing and optimizing data collection for the Anesthesiology Performance Improvement and Reporting Exchange (ASPIRE) at Corewell Health West Butterworth Hospital. The primary responsibilities include clinical data abstraction data analysis and supporting quality improvement initiatives at the assigned site. Job Summary

Leads and manages operational improvement projects throughout the organization including both clinical and non-clinical areas to accomplish measurable business process improvements. Work assignments are typically more complex and larger in scope. Analyzes and measures the effectiveness of existing processes and develops sustainable repeatable and quantifiable clinical and business process improvements. Collects and analyzes process and/or quality data to initiate develop and recommend operational practices and procedures that focus on enhanced safety increased productivity and reduced cost. This position will maintain accountability for the integrity and functioning of databases. Will collect enter and analyze data in a secure and confidential manner within the constructs of the specialty program. Provides support of the program through the monitoring and analyzing of data as well as presentation of finding to key stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  • Supports and drives improvement activities for accountable areas based on organizational priorities (project management measurable deliverables milestones and data informed strategy).
  • Serves as a liaison between various departments across the Corewell Health System. Communicates collaborates networks with and acts as a change agent to key stakeholders. Also ensures continuity and coordination of services with appropriate utilization of resources. Responsible for stakeholder management across collaboration within dept and organizational resources.
  • Drives continuous assessment and improvements using appropriate tools and methodology within the business assists stakeholders and process owners in prioritizing improvement opportunities.
  • Utilizes clinical judgment to coordinate the retrieval of pertinent clinical and regulatory data ensuring timely submission to meet program requirements.
  • Collaborates with internal and external programming staff to maintain the integrity functioning and ongoing maintenance of databases.
  • Collaborate with clinical team anticipating unmet needs proactively providing analysis and insight based on data collected to drive strategic improvement work.
  • Maintains understanding of Quality rules and regulations for The Joint Commission and CMS communicate findings to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and manage projects outside of daily abstraction work with ability to make quality independent decisions.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Data Validation: The ACQR is responsible for clinical content mapping data validation and the transfer of data to the MPOG Coordinating Center in the initial onboarding period and on a monthly basis during the maintenance phase.
  • ASPIRE Meeting Attendance:
    • Quality Committee meetings - ACQRs are de facto members of the MPOG Quality committee which meets virtually 5-6 times per year on the fourth Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m. EST. Quality Committee members provide the primary governance for ASPIRE. During the meeting measures are discussed and approved QI Stories are shared and the coordinating center obtains feedback on QI initiatives.
    • ASPIRE Collaborative meetings - As part of ASPIREs involvement in the BCBSM funded Collaborative Quality Initiative ACQRs have the additional responsibility of attending up to 3 offsite meetings per year. Refer to BCBSM Pay-for-Performance scorecard for specific requirements as they are updated annually.
  • QI Measure Review. ACQRs are responsible for reviewing site measure performance and determining data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Quality Champion. The ACQR has a professional and consistent working relationship with the Quality Champion. It is recommended the ACQR meets monthly with the Quality Champion to review ASPIRE data using tools provided by MPOG and identify areas for quality improvement.
  • Provide QI Education. ACQRs should communicate performance results and expectations to anesthesia providers nursing administration and leadership at their institution with oversight from the Quality Champion. Providing QI education can include group presentations on the ASPIRE metrics incorporating best practice recommendations discussion with an individual provider to review performance or responding to provider questions via email regarding practice changes.
  • Implementation of QI Projects. MPOG is a tool that provides credible data to enable continuous quality improvement through reports dashboards and other resources necessary to make informed decisions about improving care to patients undergoing anesthesia. ACQRs are responsible for implementing QI efforts at their site with direction from the Quality Champion.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in healthcare or related field
  • 5 years of Nursing experience
  • 5 years of Registry and/or Regulatory database management experience
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan upon hire

Preferred

  • 1 year of relevant experience with participation on improvement initiatives
  • Anesthesia and/or surgical experience
  • CRT-At least two Licenses and/or Certifications in area of specialty - Institute for Healthcare improvement (IHI) IHI Open School upon hire
