Job Duties:

The position serves as a point of contact coordination and application of the institutions EHS policies and compliance to regulatory programs for one primary and two branch campuses as well as field stations. The responsible programs include state and federal environmental occupational health and safety (EHS); industrial hygiene and hazardous materials; the application of UW System general state compliance guidelines; OSHA safety training; and the coordination of a wide-range of campus-wide risk reduction and prevention methods for academic and business environments. The focus of this position is the reduction and elimination of work-related illnesses and injuries. The position will work with limited supervision but is expected to make independent decisions on matters of compliance and safety.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Secures resources and schedules logistics for a safety program
  • Identifies operational and safety issues and develops improvement plans and standard operating procedures
  • Provides knowledge and guidance to internal and external stakeholders including leadership in a specialized area of safety such biosafety chemical hazardous materials agriculture lake radiation and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA)
  • Directs logistical activities allocates resources and investigates components of specific health and safety cases
  • Communicates findings to necessary stakeholders
  • Reviews industry updates and may assist in developing safety communication materials based on industry changes

The UWSP Risk Management department aims to protect the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point from various sources of loss or damage that could affect overall stability. This office works in conjunction with UWSA Office of Safety and Loss Prevention to administer risk management with the goal of preservation of assets and protection of personnel for the successful continuation of campus operations and promotion of a safe environment. The Environmental Health and Safety department provides guidance and assistance to our campus community to ensure a safe and healthful environment for employees students and guests.

Compensation:

$50000 annually minimum based on qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree including STEM degrees environmental science public administration with emphasis in environmental law or related field; OR two-year degree with demonstrable 3-years experience in environmental health and safety with current applicable industry safety certification.

  • High proficiency and demonstrable oral and written communications.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers under a variety of demanding conditions.

  • Valid drivers license.

  • Ability to pass and willingness to take background screenings as required.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of state and federal regulatory codes specifically for environmental health and safety in a corporate setting often demonstrated through experience as an OSHA defined competent person and/or industry safety certifications/training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 10 or 30 card holder.

  • Certifications in HAZMAT HAZWOPER or related subject areas.

  • Experience in other regulatory position.
