Job Title: Assistant Business Unit Leader (CAD Design)
Job Summary The Assistant Business Unit Leader (CAD Design) oversees and supports CAD design operations while leading a team of designers and drafters. This position blends leadership responsibilities with hands-on design work using SolidWorks and DriveWorks. Key duties include workload management design reviews process improvement and automation development. The role ensures the accuracy of 3D models drawings and BOMs; maintains data integrity through SolidWorks PDM; and integrates design workflows with SAP. Acting as a technical resource and problem-solver the Assistant BUL drives efficiency quality and collaboration across departments to meet company and customer requirements.Essential Duties & Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision
Lead and mentor CAD designers and drafters providing guidance on best practices and technical standards.
Prioritize and assign daily workloads to meet project timelines.
Coordinate collaboration between Design Sales Desk and Manufacturing teams.
Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
Develop team skills through training in SolidWorks DriveWorks and related tools.
Monitor performance providing coaching or corrective actions when needed.
Support process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency.
CAD Design & Engineering
Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.
Use DriveWorks to streamline configuration-to-order (CTO) and engineer-to-order (ETO) processes.
Maintain design libraries templates and standards for consistency.
Develop parametric models and rules within DriveWorks for automation.
Perform tolerance stack-ups FEA analysis (if applicable) and other engineering calculations.
Data & File Management (PDM)
Maintain version control and file history within SolidWorks PDM.
Oversee check-in/check-out procedures and data workflows.
Manage and update BOMs ensuring ERP alignment.
Enforce data management policies to protect intellectual property.
ERP Integration & Documentation (SAP)
Create and maintain BOMs material masters and routings in SAP.
Develop and manage technical documentation for manufacturing.
Support change management processes via ECNs and SAP workflows.
Other Responsibilities
Act as a technical escalation point for design-related issues.
Provide input in product development meetings regarding design and manufacturability.
Ensure designs meet standards and regulatory requirements.
Lead quality and continuous improvement initiatives in CAD/design processes.
Support audits compliance reviews and project tracking metrics.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Associate degree (2-year) in CAD Drafting Mechanical Design or related field.
Proficient in SolidWorks with strong 3D modeling and 2D drafting skills.
Familiarity with DriveWorks for design automation and workflow integration.
Experience in CAD automation projects including parametric modeling and process improvements.
Strong attention to detail with a focus on manufacturability and accuracy.
Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-departmental collaboration.
