The Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry & Fire Protectionis recruiting for an Engineering Associate in Palmer Alaska.


What You Will Be Doing:

The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection is the lead Alaskan agency safeguarding Alaskas people communities infrastructure and natural resources from the threat of wildland fires. We work alongside federal state and local emergency response agencies to ensure rapid and effective fire management. Were seeking a skilled Facilities Engineer to lead the planning and development of facility projects that enhance our wildfire response this role youll be the key liaison between the Division DOT&PF contractors and operational personnel driving space planning mission compatibility and infrastructure improvements. Your expertise will directly enhance the effectiveness of those on the ground ensuring that firefighters and emergency responders have the necessary facilities to perform at their best. The Division of Forestry & Fire Protections mission is to safely manage wildland fires that pose a threat to life property and critical infrastructure on 150 million acres of land throughout the State of Alaska. The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection works closely with federal state and local emergency response agencies to provide wildland fire management and protection for the State of Alaska.


This position is part of a high-functioning team that supports the boots on the ground to provide for the safety of people property and Alaskan resources. We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position-specific competencies.

  • Engineering and Technology: Knowledge of engineering concepts principles and practices and of equipment tools mechanical devices and their uses to produce motion light power technology and other applications.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of the principles methods or tools for developing scheduling coordinating and managing projects and resources including monitoring and inspecting costs work and contractor performance.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.
  • Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.
  • Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials methods and the tools to construct objects structures and buildings.

Minimum Qualifications

Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering land surveying or architecture of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering architecture land surveying or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for the non-specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelors degree with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET may substitute for four years of the non-specific required experience.
