Job Summary:
The Slitter Operator is responsible for setting up and operating slitting machines to convert master rolls of material into customer-specified widths and lengths. This role requires strict adherence to customer specifications quality standards and production schedules provided by the Supervisor or Group Leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and Review Production Schedule
- Receive daily Production Schedule Roll Tags and Order Sheets from the Supervisor/Group Leader.
- Ensure all customer-specific tolerances and requirements are clearly understood.
- Notify Supervisor or Group Leader immediately if any information is unclear or missing.
- Organize Workflow
- Review the Production Schedule to confirm no outstanding tasks from the previous shift.
- Examine Roll Tags and Order Sheets to confirm accuracy against customer specifications.
- Verify that the material type matches the Customer Product Master before beginning the job.
- Check delivered foam lengths for color consistency voids side cracks holes or other defects.
- Report any material issues or defects immediately and follow the Non-Material Conformance Procedure.
- Dimension Verification
- Accurately measure and verify the length width and height of material as per customer specifications.
- Immediately report out-of-spec dimensions to the Supervisor or Group Leader.
- Record all measured dimensions on the Slitter Production Report.
- Machine Set-Up and Inspection
- At the beginning of each shift ensure the following:
- Blade is sharp and properly installed.
- Grinders are dressed and set correctly.
- All machine and conveyor components function properly.
- Correct size cores tape and shrink-wrap are available and match the Customer Product Master.
- Heat seal wire is correctly set and functional.
- Hand-held and mounted gauges are in place and calibrated for quality checks.
- Complete the top section of the Slitter Production Report with accurate job details including:
- Material type
- Run and length numbers
- Actual size
- Color
- Specifications
- Customer and WTB Order Information
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules work orders and specifications.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting materials up to 100 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity to inspect materials and operate equipment safely.
Working Conditions:
- Manufacturing/production floor environment.
- Exposure to machinery noise and moving mechanical parts.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
